Don't understand the question
If you're in somebody else's home, you should ask them for a pot, unless you need it for a real emergency. But if they've left you alone in the kitchen to cook, then they expect you to find things yourself.

You should definately ask before you look. I usually just say "Hey, where do you keep the pots?" Most people won't be alarmed if you just ask what you're looking for.
You will find a few in my place. You are welcomed to them.
