The adventures of two pathetic nerds and a lack of cooking ingredients.....?!

Question:

The adventures of two pathetic nerds and a lack of cooking ingredients.....?

Well a little while ago I was in the kitchen looking for something to eat as a late-night snack. I looked in the cupboards and found some Hershey's cocoa, and decided I should make the chocolate frosting recipe on the back. I recruited the help of my big brother and thus started our little quest.

Well we were severely lacking in our ingredients. First off, we didn't have enough cocoa, about half of what the back suggested, so I figured we should just cut the rest in have so it's all proportionate. Then we realized we didn't have any powdered sugar. But we were determined, and pressed on, searching frantically for substitutes or a possible way to actually powder our sugar. We found that you just have to stick it in the blender along with some corn starch. But we didn't have any corn starch either.

So we went searching for a CORN STARCH substitute online. We found that FLOUR works so we used that. With everything cut in half & substituting substitutes, it just isn't right. Whats wrong?

It tastes pretty grainy lol and kind of like cake mix. Could we have stumbled onto something great, or yanno, am I gonna die now?

Oh yeah, and at least we were smart enough to reject our idea to use brown sugar and corn muffin mix.

(hee hee) I'd add baking soda and bake this mix, ought to turn out great! Jot the recipe down for future reference.

Thanks for the laugh, I love hearing other people's stories.

LOL! You were making frosting as a late-night snack? Well, I can understand that :) - thanks for sharing!

Frosting is not a snack! it is a heart valve clog in a tub! try making trail mix or popcorn. i admire the attempt, but i think just sprinkling the cocoa down your throat would have been easier.

It actually sounds like you accidently made choclate cake batter. Toss an egg in it and try baking it at 350...Watch it closely probably 10-15 min...It might be a little lacking in fluffiness, but it probably will taste good. Oh, I suggest a muffin pan, not a cake pan...good luck. Try a peanut butter sammie next time :)

No, you're not gonna die. But hopefully you'll learn the lesson to gather your ingredients before you attempt to cook.
