Shrimp and Crab Boil?!
Shrimp and Crab Boil?
I know you boil everything together, i.e. potatoes, corn, sausage, shrimp, but need some tips on how long each ingredient will take.
Answers:
they all vary..
pots take more than the shrimp
corn and sausage do about the same time...
pots are the most..
then sausage and corn
shrimp is just until they are pink...
no idea on time.. just remember.. watched pot never boils! LOL!!
Be sure to use Tony Chacherone's (idk spell) It makes for that REAL cahun flavor!
Place some concentrated crab boil (Zatarain's preferably) in a pot along with salt to taste (don't be too stingy with the salt - seafood needs it). Concerning the crab boil, I put in a heck of a lot more than what it calls for on the directions in the bottle. Also, 2 garlic heads, a lemon and 1 good size onion helps with the seasoning. Potatoes go in first and boil. Then add corn then sausage. You can test potatoes but it would be in the range of 45 minutes, corn 30 minutes and saugsage 15 minutes. Add medium to large shrimp (unpeeled) for the last 5 minutes of cooking time then remove from heat and let set 5 minutes for the shrimp to absorb seasoning. No longer or the shrimp will be hard to peel.
Some folks boil the shrimp in a separate pot because it takes more salt than the other ingredients and potatoes soak up a lot of the salt from the get-go.
Can I come eat it when you're done? It sounds way too good!
Heat water to boiling w/ seasoning first, then add sausage....After about 15 minutes, add corn & potatos - bring back to a boil & cook about 30 minutes....Add shrimp the last 10 minutes or so, then dump onto brown paper & dig right in!!!
