since u mentioned dance, you could do a disco theme, and play some good music and have everyone dance. hang some colourful lights, christmas lights would work well for this.
activities could be like dance off, and have a little price, you and like two other friends could judge and give scores on bristol board, you know on some reality shows they hold up numbers.
prize could be like a bag of candy or something, you could also do a best dressed thing.
u should wear something a bit dressier then what other people are wearing cause you are the birthday girl, so maybe a skirt, cute top, and nice shoes. maybe flats cause you wanna dance.
so yeah just have music, people, a space to dance, some food (stuff people can eat with hands, pizza, chips ETC), and pop and water.
play music early and either turn it off or lower it at like ten or eleven, depending where you live, cause neighbours might get mad if its to loud for to long.

Wow, there can be a lot to choose from. Invitations can be created based on the theme you have, there are many places to order from that cater to themed parties.
Depending on what kind of dance party you have, have dance contest in the theme you choose. Have everyone dress in costume for the party theme - so what you wear would depend on that.
You can have a "Who Is Wearing the Best Costume" contest. If you do this put it in the invitations so your friends take more time and have more fun choosing their costumes.
When you decorate use colors associated with the theme you have. Use two or three colors, two main colors and an accent color.
Have party favors and prizes for the winners of any games you play or contests you have. Of course you have to have appetizers and drinks.
Another thing you can do is have a place set up for taking pictures. If you have a friend that is good at photography, see if you can enlist them to take pictures. When the party is over you can make a scrapbook of your party and you'll be able to look back on the night with your friends.
