you really need to add oil trust me i bought one before and did that, not a good idea! if you dont add oil, 1. the chocolate will not pour over the fountain, 2. it will get chunky and cold very fast which makes it hard to clean! so add oil!

I could go all sciencey on you but basically once you melt chocolate it breaks chemically bonds that cannot join back together properly so if you remelt it, it crumbles. Adding oil( or unsalted butter if for a small fondue) keeps the bonds attached but in a twangy so it pours. For a chocolate fountain, manufacturers usually have a 'packet mix' for it, but it tends to be low grade cocoa solid content, so tastes rather like oily drinking chocolate!

What a waste of money those chocolate fountains are you take a good tasting Chocolate stick it with oil make it taste rubbish and then chuck half of the chocolate out as the novelty of shoving fruit in to foul tasting chocolate soon wears off!

No you will need to put in oil other wise it will be to thick and wont work.

nfortunately you have to add oil in order for it to run properly
