Teens: Do you still give presents at birthday parties?!

Question: Teens: Do you still give presents at birthday parties?
I'm turning 18 this year and lately I've noticed less and less people give birthday presents. I still do, as I believe it's good etiquette. Just wondering how many others felt the same? And if you no longer give presents, what age did you stop and what was your reasoning?

gift giving stops around 16, and comes back around 21 with alcoholic gifts. do it if there's something awesome you can do, but don't make it weird.

I'm nearly 18, so most of my friends are either turning 18 or older..
Sometimes I'll give a present, depends how close I am to them.
If it's a friend who's just a bit more than an acquaintance, then probably just a card or a card and some chocolate.
If it's a close friend, then a card and a proper present.

Just last week, I went to a friends 18th birthday at a club she'd hired out - I hadn't seen her for almost 2 years but I still got her a some really nice perfume, purely because she used to be a VERY close friend until we left school and had drifted apart.

But it depends on the person I guess :)
It's always nice to at least give a card, especially if they went to the effort to invite you :)

Well, I'm not 18 yet, but my sister is 19. She doesn't really go to BIRTHDAY parties anymore, just... parties. But even though she doesn't go to birthday parties, she still gives gifts. She thinks they are really sweet to give! It doesn't really matter what they are either! I'm planning on stopping having birthday parties when I am 17. I won't have any more parties after 16. But I'm getting off topic, I think even as you keep growing up, you could still give presents. You don't have to be a certain age to give a gift. :)

nope. once we hit 18 nobody i know gives big gifts anymore. we still give cards and little things, but not like i did when we were younger. the reason being that birthdays are usually at bars or restaurants now, and people can't really afford a big gift and everything else.

who gave me a thumbs down? if you had read anything other than the first word you would see that i said i still do give cards and little gifts...

i do give birthday presents..I think it's quite impolite to go to a party and not give anything to the person who had the decency to invite you!
(I don't mind if i don't get birthday presents though...)

i usually just give money in an envelope for a bday party, but for regular parties i show up with something like some sort of food, you should never come empty handed.

I never stop giving birthday presents to not do so would be preposterous.

Yeah I do :) But I'm 15 tho ... I'm probly gonna continue until i die too, cuz its just the nice thing to do :)
