starter ideas needed?!

Question: Starter ideas needed?
I am having a dinner party and cooking a beef bourginion for the main course and am doing a choice of 2 desserts profiteroles and lemon cheesecake, so am looking at keeping the starter light. Can anybody give me any suggestions. Many thanks

How about a salad with spring mix, mushrooms, pecans, carrots, feta with sliced strawberries drizzled with a homemade Strawberry dressing....

Directions:

1 cup strawberries, about 6 large berries, rinsed, hulled and sliced
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons of canola oil

Place strawberries, vinegar, pepper, sugar and salt in a blender or food processor; process until pureed, stopping once or twice to scrape down the sides. Add oil and process until smooth.

Your meal sounds delish! GOOD LUCK & BON APPETIT!

I would suggest a very similar salad to the previous poster - romaine hearts with olive oil, good wine vinegar, freshly ground salt and pepper. Very elegant, very French and most of all - easy.

Another easy salad idea is take some fennel and thinly slice it. Saute on medium heat it in olive oil oil and butter till soft (15 mins) and season with salt and pepper. Cool - plate baby spinach and use a ring mold and fill it with the cooled fennel. Dress it with a dijon vinaigrette.

I would suggest something like bruschetta. there are SO MANY ways to make it. you may just want to search some recipes on the internet. I would also suggest maybe shrimp with cocktail sauce? or shrimp wrapped in bacon. maybe some veggies with hummus. or other light dips. maybe mini wraps? or stuffed mushrooms. I hope i at least gave you some ideas! have fun.

Other obvious answer might be soup served with great bread.

Or a pasta dish. A small serving of ravioli or some other stuffed pasta with a light sauce.

How about a simple salad of mixed greens, tossed in lemon and olive oil. Simple and delicious (I get my greens from a local farm)
