Food for a party that starts at 2pm on a Sunday?!

Question: Food for a party that starts at 2pm on a Sunday?
Unfortunately due to the hall opening at 12, the earliest I could start the party is at 2 in order to give me time for set up.

It's a weird time of day because most people already ate lunch. I don't want to do just chips and snacks though. Looking for crockpot type foods.

Any suggestions?? It is a Going-Away party

Answers:

i personally think with it being at 2pm people do not expect heavy food. they have already eaten or have dinner plans. depending on how long the party is to last.
i suggest (if you feel it absolutely necessary to have food) finger sandwiches. easy to eat and no clean up.
ham, roast beef and chicken salad. potato chips and pretzels with a nice sheet cake , half choc, half white.
the expense of serving food could be spent on a nice gift for the person to keep.

another suggestion is to go around the room and let everyone say something to the person in the form of a toast with champagne. this will get all involved and be fun too.

have fun and remember who has to clean up.

Sounds like the perfect scenario for pulled pork crostinis.

You could do like a sandwhich bar or even a baked potato bar. Cheese and crackers would work too. Since people will have already eaten lunch you could do desserts. A chocolate dip with pretzels, strawberries, and marshmallows and other desserts.

Chili

Meatballs with equal parts chili sauce & grape jelly (sounds weird but amazingly good)

Make sure your invitations say that you will be serving a meal so people have a light lunch or no lunch at all.

Make a hot dish. You can find great recipes on http://www.allrecipes.com

dip chip sandwich
