My daughter wants to have a birthday party at home. What can I do?
I know she wants a sleepover or some little girly party, what can I do that is inexpensive and keep this many kids entertained? How long should a party be?I am on a very tight budget. My daughters school is year round and she wil be out of school over the course of her b-day this is the first time. What can I do to make it special on a limited budget?
Answers:
You didn't say how old, but have an age appropriate cooking party. Make pizza dough, the pizzas will come out in all sorts of funny shapes and let them decorate any way with anything.
Could do the same with cookies or decorate cupcakes.
It'll be one heck of a mess, but they'll have a good time.
Don't give her a party, the last thing you want to do with kids is give them what they want, they end up like Bush.
I'v raised three - how about this:
1) make popcorn, of course, cheap and easy.
2) rent some videos.
3) make cupcakes instead of buying a store cake
4) let them play some games like twister, etc.
5) give them all cheap flashlights and play tag it outside after dark.
6) give them arts and crafts paper, glue, beads, safety scissors and let them make stuff
7) Make a big pan of "bubbles - get a little container of glycerine at your local drugstore and mix a little with dawn (only use dawn). Have the kids bend the wire clothes hangers into BIG circles. bend them so they can dip them into the big flat pan of bubble mix. MAKES ENORMOUS AND CHEAP BUBBLES. add more glycerin if the bubbles won't hold well.
8) get sidewalk chalk and let them paint your driveway into a mural!
7) make sloppy joes - or even better let each one make their own mini pizza. you make the dough (or buy pizza dough) and give them cheese, pizza sauce and pepperoni slices.
enjoy - they grow up so fast!
You didnt say how old.. so just get a a few bottles of 151 and some music and you did ur part..
How many kids? Try to keep it to an even number. Depending on her age, the activities will vary but can cost you next to nothing. Try these guidelines:
Ages 7-10: 4-6 girls; make it a theme party, such as "Grease" or High School Musical. Rent the movie, get everyone in their jammies, armed with their hairbrush microphones, and have your own show! The prize could be the girl who wins doesn't have to clean up. Let them stay up until about midnight. You will find that most kids don't need a lot of stuff from you; just use your imagination. Grease is fun for them because it is so "retro"; and HSM is something they all love! They will make their own fun.
Another idea would be to have the girls write a play before the party and at the party they can perform it. If your budget allows, you can buy a set of scripts from American Girl for about $20.
Have a makeover party. Buy some cheap "grownup" makeup ("Wet n Wild"), Queen Helene facial masks (about $1 a packet), nail polish, etc. Let them go to town making each other up and doing manis and pedis.
Get popcorn, pizza, and water; serve donuts or frozen waffles for breakfast. Water will save you money and most parents don't want their kid drinking a ton of sugar anyway.
Ages 11+: Modify the above themes, but change the movies to ones like "First Daughter," "Chasing Liberty," or any teen angst movie. Let this group stay up until about 2am, talking about boys and stuff. They can do manis and pedis too. This age group usually enjoys mild horror movies, like the Scream series, Signs, etc. And let them make some harmless crank calls buy blocking their number first (*67) and asking folks if their refrigerator is running. Stop crank calls at 8pm. They will think you're cool and for some reason this amuses them to no end. (We all like to be a little naughty!)
Good luck, don't worry about money, and have fun!
music, games, desert and pizza. and you never said how old she is.
there's a really good site:
www.familyfun.com
which suggests A LOT of party ideas, food, and etc.
it has very high ratings for the food ideas and i think they are clever.
they also provide party ideas, like a "superstar" party. it has everything and i don't think the cost is a lot.
it has different age parties so it i guess it doesn't really matter how old she is
u dudbt give your daughters age or say how much money you have to spend, so it would be really hard to tell you what u could do.
I think a food party sounds like fun! Let them loose in the kitchen and let them whip up some delights! Oh, hide all sharp knives and anything else that they might harm themselves with.
I don't know how old your daughter is going to be but you can always take her to rent several of her favorite chick flicks (great for sleepovers!!). For food, you can have the guests frost/decorate cupcakes or cookies and order pizza. Plus, lots of candy! On the invites, you can tell them to bring any CDs, makeup, and DVDs.
hope this helps!
you haven mentioned any age but if she is in school.. say very young you could have a beach party at home.. fill a couple of tubs with water and let the kids play in then.. place the tubs in your lawn to avoid mess.. followed by cake cutting and snacks..
My girls always had sleepovers on their birthdays. The menu was sloppy joes, potato chips and something to drink. Very inexpensive. For dessert I let them make their own ice cream sundaes along with birthday cupcakes. They always had fun and couldn't wait till the next birthday. Very inexpensive, because I had limited funds also. Plus it works for all age groups. Also a couple of scarry movie videos and they were set.
it you have a large yard put a tent up and have a camp out fire party. make sure the fire is out when the children go to bed
go to your local walmart super center in the camping section and get a fire sandwichmaker. buy some loves of bread , ,different pie fillings, and pizza toppings and one can of speggetti sauce. heat the sandwich maker in the coals til hot put butter each side place a piece of bread on each side fill with a little sauce and pizza toppings on one side clamp shut. place back in hot coals. check to see if slightly brown and serve for dessert fill bead with pie fillings . these are also called mountiian pies. have a camp out party. also roasting marshmellows hot dogs on a stick. girls love to eat and talk all night long. if your yard is not big enough check into a local camp ground and put up a large tent and have the party there. some campgrounds even have swimming pools so the girls can swim. and are very cheap for a nights stay and your house dont get totaled. i know this i have seven children and i am on a budget. if your daughter is into the brat dolls go to a dollars store and by minuture brat dolls and decorate you home made cake. to bring to camp fire . girls love to cook so why not teach them over a camp fire.
Have you ever tried a bounce house? They will keep the kids entertained and tire them put. You can do a search for your area to find a rental company. I know the rental company in my area that we used for our daughters party is http://www.bouncecheap.com/
They have a directory that may have a company in your area:
