What do i need for a barbecue in a park picnic area (other than the food) ?
I'm not experienced with bbq-ing, and especially never done it on a public grill. I know I need coal, lighter fluid, lighter, spatula. How do I apply oil/do I need something to clean the grill before/after I'm done, or does one grill with something like an aluminium foil on the grill ??
Thx,

I would take something to clean the grill off with like a hard scrub brush ans some bleach, then make a really hot fire and let it burn some off. You might want to take some foil just in case the bars on the grill there are not spaced close together, and your food don't fall apart. As for oil, you can add that with a paper towel, or they make spray types for grilling if you want to take that, but DO NOT spray that into an open fire... Good luck, and enjoy your dinner...
no barbeque is complete without beer.
You'll want to get a scraper/brush to clean the grill surface with before you light up any charcoal. You can usually find these in the same area as the charcoal, and basically it's just a metal brush with a scraper on the end, which you can use to get any buildup off the grillwork.
Other than that, it's usually a good idea to get a brand of charcoal which will allow you to light it using the bag as the accelerant - that way, you're not dealing with lighter fluid (which can be hazardous if you haven't used the stuff before). Kingsford is a good brand for that, and the bags usually have instructions right on them to make it as easy as possible for the newly-grilling.
Lastly, make sure that you give the coals time to heat up and the flames to die down before you slap anything on the grill. Barbecuing is meant to be done over coals, not flame (despite what everybody thinks), and taking that bit of extra time will mean that you're not dealing with "burnt offerings" your first time out.
Good luck!
Can spray Pam or cover the grill in aluminum foil to keep foods from sticking to the grill. Tongs would also be helpful, and different trays to keep separate raw and cooked foods.
Don't forget the aluminum foil! After cleaning the grill you can just spread out the foil over the grill and don't have to worry about too many germs on your meats. It also comes in handy in case you want to grill some veggies. I would also pack Clorox disinfectant spray and wipes. It can never hurt.
Firing up the grill will clean the grill. Foil can be used, if you prefer.Don't forget the platter. You will probably want an ice chest to store the perishables, drinks, condiments, ice. If using a park table, you will need a table cloth, plastic wear, paper plates, plastic or paper cups, unless you are having canned drinks. Don't forget the meat and the BBQ sauce. Throwing a match on the charcoal, may be more safe than using a lighter. Wait until the coals become white before starting the cooking. Don't forget the trash bag, so that you can clean up after wards. Have Fun!
A bonfire.
