How much should a tuxedo cost to purchase?!

Question:

How much should a tuxedo cost to purchase?

I have several events to go to that are black tie. So instead of renting a tux for each occassion, I figured it might be cheaper just to buy one. So I was wondering the cost involved for the tux plus all the components (not counting shoes).

Answers:
First of all what are the other components? unless you are getting married (and even then you may want to think twice) or going to graduate high school DO NOT wear a cumberbund.

150 - 200 is not enough unfortunately. This is a suit worn to impress, one that you may want to pull out a few times over the next few years

Unlike other suits you may buy for work or for the season a tux has to hold its style regardless of the trends so a couple tips

1) Avoid the flashy stripes, prints, colours, ect.
2) Avoid Peaked collars ( these tend to get bigger and smaller with the passing trend) go with a shawl collar instead they hold their style longer
3) You don't need to get a pleated shirt or collar tabs- just a very nice stiff white shirt with french cuffs (Kenneth Cole $75.00). Cuff links can be bought for $20.00 (think George Clooney in Oceans Eleven)
4) And this is the big one, spend the money, thats right spend it. This is an investment that will pay off. We have all seen the uncle in the cheap suits at the wedding. DON"T be him.

You don't have to spend $2000.00 to get a custom suit made. Get a GOOD off the shelf tux with nice weight material and have it altered for you by a GOOD mens tailor. This is a guys thing, don't go to some mall tailor who stiches hems all day.

Women get to go to the spa and get pampered, do yourself a favour and go to a good tailor. that $500/600 tux will look like a $2000.00 model by the time he is done, and you my friend will look great for the next 10 years.

hope this helps

I have made the mistakes before, and I have learned a few things

It all depends. The prices can range from about $50-$100, depending on where you go, and what style you want. I would say order it maybe 3 weeks in advance, but even further in advance in the spring and summer due to proms, weddings etc. Also, December is a fairly busy time, as many people may be renting tuxedos for holiday parties.

I would say you could get a tux for around $150 - $200.
Then you would need to purchase a shirt and the tie. $45 - $75.

However, you'd have a suit that fit you well, was comfortable,
was in your closet. It would only take 2-3 tmes renting and it would be paid for.

You just have to wash your shirt each time...and every so often get the suit drycleaned. If you're not hard on the suit with sweat, soil, and dirt.....that wouldn't be very often.

I'd say around $150.00 for a nice one.

Last one I bought (and still have) cost £200. in the UK.
