Fakhreldine on Piccadilly - ask for banquette seating - do not sit in the formal dining area.
The Ivy......need to book ahead....usually costs about ￡180 for a meal for 2 with wine and water.
The Crusting pipe wine bar...also in Covent Garden is great too...they have the musicians from the Royal Opera House come over and play to you at your table...very romantic.

I love The French House in Soho - the restaurant (upstairs from the bar bit of it) is small and intimate, the food is fantastic, the staff friendly and knowledgable about both the food and the fabulous wine list - it is a real gem without all the fakeness of those "latest thing" type places. I enjoy Trader Vics underneath the Park Lane Hilton. Easy parking at Marble arch or right opposite in the car park under the roundabout, nearest tube hyde park corner.
I like it as it is a relaxed place to be, and then there is always a short walk through Hyde Park or to the palace to settle the stomach.
Otherwise it is Quaglinos in London, but prepare to re-mortgage to settle the bill.
If you are talking about real romance then hop on the train to Stratford Upon Avon, its an hour from Central London - catch a B&B with real four poster bed, dine in buildings from Shakespear's era and take in A Midsomer Nights Dream from the RSC. Guaranteed to melt even the sternest of ladies.
L'escargot in soho. Its a Marco Pierre White restaurant and the food is fantastic. Eat in the Picasso Room and the menu is about ￡40 each. Well worth it.

The Ivy House is wonderful and attracts celebrities and very tasty meals.
Le Gavroche in Mayfair.
Very romantic with a cosy decor an ambiance, top food by French Chef and exellent service.
One of my favourite in London.
