Ideas for creepy halloween birthday for 2? (21+)?!

Question: Ideas for creepy halloween birthday for 2? (21+)?
My sister and I are 1 year and 3 days apart,a week before haloween. She turns 21this year and I turn 22 and we were gonna share a birthday. Since its so close to halloween we thought we'd have a haunted birthday party. We live in an apartment, so we cant go crazy but what are some good ideas for scary food? Scary cocktails? Most terrifying movies? Scary decorations? Birthday cake ideas? I was thinking a tiered cake frosted chocolate with strawberry sauce poured over the side for "blood" and I was going to cover the couches with some old ratty sheets and put a black light in the ceiling. What else should I do? ( I know its early, but a good party takes at least 6 weeks planning)

Answers:

You're right to start planning ahead--gives you time to look around thrift stores and make things yourself. As for food ideas...here's a good site with some eerie ideas (note the eerie eyeballs and witches' fingers...)>>>

Serve "Frankentini's" for a drink:
2 parts vodka
1 part white creme de cacao
1 splash of creme de menthe
ice

Directions:

Mix vodka, white creme de cacao and a splash of creme de menthe. Shake with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass.

Garnish with gummi worms.

**NOTE: For xtra ghoulishness...make fake blood-rimmed glasses...here's instructions on how to do it, plus some more drink recipes like "Vampire Kiss">>>http://www.hostessblog.com/2008/…

DECORATIONS:....pick up some dog chew bones and lay them around together...get some cheap cheesecloth and rip it, then stain in tea to hang up for tattered curtains. Get a red light bulb and have it shine on a skeleton.
Find a broken tree limb (skinny kind) and hang white lights from it...can dangle Halloween items from the tree---either tie the branch securely to a post, a railing or place in a container to hold it. (I always tie mine to something).
Get a fog machine.
Do a wall of scary masks--get some material with a sheen to it or use something that glows when a black light is on it (if that's what you're going to use).

Make food table area a focal point---use lots of black netting on top of a tablecloth, candles in groups, and stagger the food on the table by placing them on boxes or large cans which have been hidden under the tablecloth to give various heights to the food platters. Add huge spiders.

Black & orange streamers twisted across the ceiling, down the walls, hanging in doorways....dancing skeletons with funny "props".

Here's a site: Brain Cake and other suggestions on the side (Frankenstein fingers...dying them green), etc.http://www.instructables.com/id/6-Terrif…

Raspberry jam makes better "blood"...can tint with a bit of red......or using red gel icing works for blood on a cake. How about making a red velvet cake....vampire style?.....don't forget the chainsaws ;).

Creepy Witches' Fingers

Yield: 5 dozen

1 cup Butter, softened
1 cup Icing sugar (powdered sugar)
1 Egg
1 tsp Almond extract
1 tsp Vanilla
2 2/3 cups Flour
1 tsp Baking powder*
1 tsp Salt
3/4 cup Almonds, whole blanched
1 Tube red decorator gel
(optional, not pictured)

Gross everyone out with these creepy cookies.
In bowl, beat together butter, sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla. Beat in flour, baking soda*, and salt. Cover and refrigerate 30 minutes. Working with one quarter of the dough at a time and keeping remainder refrigerated, roll heaping teaspoonful of dough into finger shape for each cookie. Press almond firmly into 1 end for nail. Squeeze in centre to create knuckle shape. (Accompanying picture showed long rolled shape with bulge at centre for knuckle; you puff it out rather than squeeze it in.) Using paring knife, make slashes in several places to form knuckle.

Place on lightly greased baking sheets; bake in 325F (160C) oven for 20-25 minutes or until pale golden. Let cool for 3 minutes. Lift up almond, squeeze red decorator gel onto nail bed and press almond back in place, so gel oozes out from underneath. You can also make slashes in the finger and fill them with "blood."
(ed. note - I opted not to go for the bloody effect as you can see in my picture above, and my guests were still grossed out! - Britta)
Remove from baking sheets and let cool on racks. Repeat with remaining dough.

Gruesome Gourmet: Brain Dip
Get smart with this Halloween party food. Fill a plastic brain mold with a pretty pink shrimp dip for the ultimate gross-out grub on Halloween (recipe below).
Makes about 100 appetizer servings.
Ingredients
1 Cup(s) mayonaise plus 1 tablespoon
1 can (10 -oz.) cream of mushroom soup
1 package (8 oz.) of cream cheese, softened
1 envelope of Knox unflavored gelatin, dissolved in 1/4 cup hot water
1/2 Cup minced scallions
1 1/2 Lbs cooked bay shrimp
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1 Tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 Pinch salt
Directions
Use 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise to grease a 6-cup brain mold or a bunch of mini brain molds; set aside.
Pour contents of soup can in a medium saucepan and heat over medium until warm. Stir in cream cheese until melted. Stir in dissolved gelatin with water until blended. Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
Remove from heat and pour into brain mold. Chill until firm. Unmold on to a platter and serve with crackers.

Hog dog mummies
Ingredients
1 11-ounce can of refrigerator breadsticks
1 12-pack of hot dogs
Yellow mustard
X
Instructions
For each mummy, separate one breadstick from the roll and use kitchen shears or a knife to slice it in half lengthwise to create two thinner strips.

Wrap one strip at a time snugly around the hot dog. Depending on the size of the hot dog, you may not need all of both strips. Leave about 1/2 inch of hot dog exposed for the face area and continue wrapping the top of the hot dog.

Bake the mummies on a cookie sheet at 350o for 15 to 18 minutes or until the breadstick wrapping is golden brown.

Remove the mummies from the oven and cool them for 5 minutes. Add yellow mustard eyes just before serving. Makes 12 mummies

Maggot stew
Ingredients:
1 1/2 C. cooked long-grain white rice, or
1 1/2 C. cooked orzo pasta
2 tbsp. olive oil
1 batch soup or stew of your choice, prepared

Instructions: 1. Cook rice according to package directions. Well-separated grains make the most "maggoty" rice.

2. While rice is still hot and fluffy, toss cooked, salted rice with olive oil. This keeps the grains seperate and makes them glisten.

3. Before serving, spoon rice on top of prepared stew of your choice. Leave on top and do not stir.

4. Watch your guests get really grossed out by this particular addition to your Halloween party menu-- that is, before they chow down.

Bloody Cocktails: One fun idea for a Halloween cocktail party is to set up a "blood bar." Using different red-colored juices and/or liqueurs, make a batch each of four of five different red-colored cocktails. Name each one after a blood type, such as A-Positive, B-Positive, O-Negative, etc. See below for some ideas for red Halloween drinks. Or just make your favorites
