Birthday cake idea for double B-day Party?!

Question: Birthday cake idea for double B-day Party?
I have decided this year, to have both of my son's birthday cookout together. My oldest is turning 12 and my baby is turning 2, their birthdays are only 3 weeks apart. We have always had my oldest son a big cookout for his birthday every year. We did each a seperate cookout last year. But this year, I have decided to combine this into one cookout, not only to make it easier on myself, but also on the family members and friends that have to attend these cookouts!

My oldest doesnt really care much for the birthday cookout/party thing anymore, he just likes friends over to campout and swim in the pool. So this will work out fine I think, having the cookout late in the evening, and letting his friends remain there to campout overnight.

I am looking for great ideas on how to do the Birthday Cake though.

I know I can bake 2 different cakes without a problem. But I was lookin for sumthin a lil more exciting for this. Kinda a thought of a 2 tier cake or sumthin.

Just seeing if anyone has any better suggestions out there for me, anything will help and be greatly appreciated.........Thanks!

Answers:

well, you could make your older son's with chocolate frosting and write happy birthday in orange, red and yellow and make it look like a campfire, and your younger son's with vanilla frosting- either leave it white or tint it blue to make it look like a lake or swimming pool- maybe write happy birthday in a darker blue. That way, you could have one vanilla cake for the guests who like vanilla and chocolate for the chocoholics. You could make the 2 yr old's a double layer round and the 12 yr old's a double layer square. That way, they would sort of go together but not be all matchy- matchy.

What about two cakes that are extra special

That is a great idea but similar to this if you don't mind

you can have the party at night near a clean lake so at the same time they can swim but if you don't mind them cleaning up at night
