If it's casual, then sandwiches, chips, iced tea and soda will be fine. Maybe some beer or wine. Put out trays of meat and cheese, and some condiments, so everyone can make their own.

For something a little fancier or more formal, it kinda depends on your cooking skills. You don't want to serve anything that will keep you in the kitchen the whole time. Pasta is usually a winner--you can adjust the quantity based on how many you expect, and with a loaf of French bread and a green salad, you've got a meal. You can make the sauce yourself, or pick any number of decent jarred sauces if you doubt your ability. I make my own red sauce, but Classico makes a series of alfredo type sauces that I love--throw some cook cubed chicken or a bag of cooked shrimp in while it's heating.

Get some white wine, red wine and beer for alcohol. If you feel ambitious, you can offer a special drink of the day. I normally add margaritas or sangria to the list but more than that and you become a full time bartender

Get some seltzer/club soda, water and soda if you have soda drinkers.

In terms of food, I would take one of two routes.

1) BBQ outside. You can keep it simple with hamburgers, sausage, hot dogs, chicken. Or you can kick it up with skirt steak, shrimp. Make a potato and tossed salad and a fruit salad followed by ice cream for dessert

2) Cook something you can make in advance like Lasagna, baked ziti, eggplant parm,....etc

It depends on what type of get- together you are going for. Something party-like? Try some wings, Salad, fruit salad, snack like foods and punch. If you're going for something more formal try something like a pasta dish or casserole

Easy stuff like pasta or salad, meatballs, dinner rolls,

which meal of the day? Drinkers or non?
