I am 17, waitressing questions?!

Question: I am 17, waitressing questions?
I will be 18, October 8th, but as of now I am 17. Restaurants around where I live that are hiring are Friendly's, Outback Steakhouse, Olive Garden, Macaroni Grill, and Carrabba's.

I don't have any previous waitressing experience, so I know I will earn less and might not get the job.

Anyway, has anyone ever worked for any of these restaurants? And how old do you have to be to work as a waitress NOT a hostess? And do you have to remember the menu's - how hard is that? Uniforms, what are they, do they provide them or do you have to buy them?

If you can think of any other good restaurants to work at, PLEASE let me know.

Thanks in advance! Best answer goes to person with most detailed, best info.

Well we all have to start somewhere, you have to be 18 in order to serve liquor, as far as the restaurants I think any of those would be willing to train you. Its when you get into pricey restaurants that they would like you to come with at least a knowledge of some wines, vodkas etc. You should go and let them know when you will turn 18, maybe they will hire and train you , until your birthday. Uniforms.? not sure, most times you have to buy the shirt.Go and apply at your favorite, tell them you are a fan of their food. and would love to work there. Go for it!

Started at a place like Olive Gardens, now I work at a very nice Italian restaurant and have been working as a server for over 30 years ..I love it..you need to like people it will make your job effortless.

I don't know which state you live in, but in MOST states, you have to be 18 to serve alcohol, so until you turn 18 in October, your best bet is the restaurants that don't have alcohol, which, from your list, I think only leaves you with Friendly's. How it is to work there would depend on who the owner of your particular Franchise is so - just apply and go for it!
