50th birthday party!!!?!

Question: 50th birthday party!!!?
My auntie is coming over for christmas, we want to throw a suprise 50th birthday party for her on the 22nd december and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on the following:

- music
-decorations
-were to buy cheap but nice decorations
-food
-anything else you can think of

I know the party wont be for a while yet but it is only 4 months away and we would like to get it organised for where to have it and who to invite, we also have to find people from school who she hasnt seen in years. Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, if you have any websites that we could buy stuff off, let me know :D thanks.

You should play music that she likes. As for decorations, it all depends on where you live.
I remember when my grandma had her 80th birthday party, we went to a special cake decorator place and had a cake made for her. It had frosting replicas of all the state flowers from places she had lived, because she likes flowers. Maybe you could do something like that with your aunt's cake. My grandma's cake was a big hit in my family! And with other food, I've always thought that fun hours d'oeuvres were good at parties. Everyone can snack and chat until the cake is served.

You need a theme. You could do it Christmas-y or all white (winter wonderland) or you could do it from her era--the 60s! That would be something different and interesting to do three days before Christmas! Here's a link to one site I found to get your ideas going but there are TONS of sites and ideas out there. The only thing would be if it's a surprise she's not going to be dressed right. You wouldn't want her to be the only one not dressed up so you would need to have her an outfit there, maybe something old of hers or a costume you order ahead of time...

If you don't think she will be thrilled with this idea, you might want to do something more low key. I just think a fun theme will help keep people from sitting and staring at each other--every party thrower's worst nightmare! Esp if you have old classmates coming, etc..
