it isn't very graceful to ask for gifts at any party, but.... if someone asks what you would like have some ideas so you get what you want or mention a store you really like that you know you shop at. if the people you are inviting know you well, you will be pleased with the surprises you get!

You can't ask for gifts..it is beyond rude and very tacky. A housewarming party is to share your new home with friends and family..not to expect gifts. Most people will bring something but don't expect anything more than a few bottles of wine and some plants.
