Sophistocated birthday party ideas (food and drinks and decoration)?!

Question: Sophistocated birthday party ideas (food and drinks and decoration)?
She just wants a small party at her place, with pre-drinks and party food and then going out to a club afterwards.

I have already got her a small cake decorated like a birthday present with her name on it as a birthday gift. I just need ideas for food and drinks and maybe a couple of tasteful decorations for the party...

Decorations: Pick a color scheme - gold, silver, bronze, black and white. (My favorite is to combine gold and silver or gold and red.) Shoot for one that you know she likes (and that won't clash with the room colors), then pick your decorations. (Keep in mind the accessories you already have, such as candle holders and table cloths, cocktail napkins, etc., so you limit buying these bigger ticket items if budget is important.) The decorations could include red or silver candles on gold tone (bronze or brass) holders. The table could be dressed with a golden cloth and a silver table scarf (or reverse with the red/gold scheme). Go to a store such as Big Lots or McFrugles and get some artificial vines or ivy. Lightly spray with gold or silver paint and then twine around the candles or fresh flowers on the table, buffet or end tables. You can do the same with artificial flowers and the candle holders - just don't use large or plastic flowers. Stick with small and fabric for the elegance. Also, look in the bridal or wedding section for silver, gold or white decorations. Don't forget to have a little something to dress up the powder room vanity - a candle or special hand towels and soaps.
Food: Hors d'oeuvres or appetizers -Try to recall foods she has enjoyed or commented on in the past, whether at a party or in a restaurant and either try to make them or buy them from the deli or restaurant. Stick with a theme such as sushi, Italian, Chinese, or all American. Just don't have anything messy such as hot wings. Some of the big lot stores (Sam's and Costco) carry ready made hors d'oeuvres but that really require finessing before serving. They aren't that good just from the oven to the table. Whatever you do, garnish will dress up the dish. Serve on coordinated plates or trays.
Drinks: This depends on your budget. Would she like an open bar, one special drink by the pitcher (Manhattans, Martinis, etc.) or go for champagne. Everyone likes champagne and it simplifies the service and lends elegance. For non-drinkers, buy a sparkling non-alcoholic beverage.
Have fun!

Light candles all around and spread birthday cake confetti on the table. You can also arrange nicely all the presents that are received by the birthday on both sides of the cake.
drinks:
1 1/2 ounce vanilla vodka
1 ounce half-n-half
1/2 ounce almond liqueur
a little lemon zest

pour all ingredients into a shaker full of ice. shake vigorously & strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
