Well something obvious and fun would be the old style disco party with lots of coloured lights, etc. What about a Barn Dance Party with the country theme - lots of hay bails, etc? A fairly standard and modern one is just the typical night club dance party with the low lighting, bouncers at the front door, etc. What about a glow in the dark dance party? You can give people glow sticks and use black lights. Have a look at the site below - they seem to have some good ideas...
