Cocktail Party style wedding reception or family style seated dinner? Any help?!

Question: Cocktail Party style wedding reception or family style seated dinner? Any help?
We are only having 80 people.

Option 1: A cocktail party style reception with Carving Station with Heavy Appetizers followed by dessert

Option 2: A sit down pasta dinner served family style followed by a dessert/coffee bar

I think the cocktail type of thing is more fun, lets people mingle and chat more and weddings can be a prime occasion to talk to people you might not see very often. But if you have any number of older folks who might not want to stand around for a long time, make sure you have some tables so people can take a load off their feet.

If you want your guests to have a good time and mix it up, the cocktail party reception is better. Below is a blog post about fun weddings that includes a description of a cocktail reception and how much fun it was for the guests.

I think the first menu sounds more interesting. just throwing pasta on a plate isn't very unique. have cocktails and drinks, yes, and heavy apps with a carving station so people can get their meat. be sure to have tables so people can sit and eat- I went to a big lavish 60th bday party a few years ago in a hotel ballroom, and they had tall pub tables to stand around and eat, but nowhere to sit! you had to go to the pasta station and then try to eat off your plate while holding your drink.

Option 1

def option 1. you want people to mingle not just talk with the random people by them.
