Planning a Sweet Sixteen Joint (Girl/Boy) Party?!

One of my (boy) friends and I are planning a joint Sweet Sixteen together and we need a ton of ideas! We're thinking about going with our local community center for a venue, but everything else is completely undecided. Right now we're leaning towards a black and white, mainly because it's not gender-biased, formal theme; however, we're also debating the formal part too, because we're afraid our friends won't want to dress up. If you have any planning help, theme ideas, or any other kind of advice, that would be awesome! Anything at all is appreciated! Thanks a bunch :D
