Chicken grilling help???!

Question:

Chicken grilling help???

I am new to grilling chicken, and haven't had good luck with it. It turns out burnt or half cooked. Should I maybe boil it for a few minutes before putting it on the grill?

Answers: A lot depends on what cut of the chicken you are grilling. Breast meat cooks quickly and will dry out quickly as well. So, a marinade with oil in it that you can put the chicken in first and then brush on during grilling will help. High heat is often the culprit with chicken, so a medium temperature, turning the meat a few times will do better.

The thigh and drumstick have more fat attached and work better on a grill. But medium temperature is still better for these cuts. If you are using a grilling sauce with sugar in it, it will burn faster than a sauce like teriyaki. Remember to turn and baste the pieces often.

If you are using a charcoal grill, using indirect heat works best for chicken. That means that you put the charcoal on one side of the grill, put the top on until it gets pretty hot and then put your chicken on the part of the rack away from the coals. Put the top back on and baste often. It shouldn't take more than 25 minutes for dark meat.

Hope this helps--don't give up!! Source(s):
I am a personal chef yes or put it in oven for 1/2 hour which is easier.oven temp 350 nah dont do that.
All you have to do is flatten the chicken out brush abit of olive oil on it and cook it on a medium heat for around 4 mins each side! The easiest way to keep the chx from burning is turning it often. Another problem could be heat, as in to much. You don't say how you are cooking, but I'm sure you could lower the heat output somehow. Last is there bone in your chx, if so it will take longer to cook (density of the bone). Some people boil chicken 10-15 minutes before grilling, this will cut down on grilling time and help make sure the interior is done. Happy grilling! If it's chicken with bones in it, you need to pre-cook it. Bake it in a 325 degree oven for 40 minutes before grilling.

If it's boneless chicken breasts, you don't need to pre-cook----but watch it carefully, because there's a fine line between cooked & dried out!

Try cutting breasts into strips or cubes & skewering them, then basting with whatever you like. They cook faster & have more flavor....and dry out less! chicken takes the longest to cook on a grill just keep turning it and close the lid dont get your fire too hot Key word for cooking chicken is SLOWLY.

Low temp (med low to low)
Some people even use indirect heat. If it is a whole chicken on a rottiserie, put some tinfoil on the leg ends and wing tips for 3/4 of the total cooking time, removing the foil at the very last part of cooking. I have learned a great way to make excellent, flavorful and tender grilled chicken this way...(yes, bringing your meat to a boil for a couple of minutes is the trick)

I toss my chicken into a pot of water and bring to a boil for no more than 5 minutes. This speeds up the cooking process on your grill. Take the chicken out, spice and baste it with whatever sauce you would like such as your barbeque sauce.

I then wrap my chicken in heavy duty aluminum foil, not too tightly but enough to let the heat swirl around in the foil pouch. I poke a couple of little holes in the foil so the taste of the grill gets in there too. I then slap it on the grill that is all ready and cook it in the foil for about a half an hour or so. (40 min tops) then I take the chicken OUT of the foil and slap it on the grill for the final 8 to 10 minutes!! I have never been more pleased with grilling chicken and things like ribs this way and everyone loves it! I promise it tastes GREAT! Of course you will have to tweak the process to make it your own a bit but you won't be disappointed.

GOOD LUCK and ENJOY!

Kim no, just grill the chicken and when the juices runs clear, it's done. it's really not that hard. If you're planning on basting the chicken with any type of mop sauce or BBQ, make sure to do it during the last 5 minutes of cooking, otherwise that is what burns on the grill. no you need to cook it slow i do not have a gas grill,i still use a charcoal grill .i keep the lid down so there is no flame.you have a flame it burns the chicken.i turn the chicken every few min.till it is golden brown, than i put b.b.q sause on it and cook it on each side for a min or two.mmmmmmmmmmm
