I used my cutting board to mash garlic into a paste, and now my cutting board smells and i can't get rid of it!

Question:

Can anyone suggest a home remedy to get that garlic smell out of the wood? I'm new to cooking...

Thanks!

Answers:

Agreed, salt can help remove the smell, but what the answerer who first mentioned it didn't tell you is that you need to pour about a tablespoonful of salt on the spot and then use the salt to scrub the board vigorously for several minutes. Rinse, repeat, and then let your board dry. You will still detect a faint garlic odor, but it won't be enough to alter the flavor of other items you prepare using that board. And next time you need to mash garlic, use a garlic press. They're inexpensive and will save you on the aggravation of having to scrub your board again.
