To clarify, also, I have brown rice & wild rice, not instant and was hoping this would work :) 45 min. stove time inside would heat our camp like mad...will try this tonight!

Absolutely...you can boil water on the grill and then adjust the gas for simmer...I know this because during hurricanes Wilma and Katrina, I was living in South Florida and we lived on our grill for a week without electricity...REMEMBER to use a pot holder for the handle...I learned that one the hard way...
