What kind of dessert for hostess gift?!

Question:

What kind of dessert for hostess gift?

I am a guest at my boyfriend's sister's home for dinner this coming Sunday night. What kind of dessert should I take as a hostess gift for us to have after dinner? I am partial to something chocolate...

Answers: You should not bring food as a hostess gift and expect the hostess to serve it unless you tell her ahead of time - she may already have a dessert ready. It's better to bring something that she could enjoy at a later date.
"The general guideline, however, is that food or wine, when brought as a gift, should not be consumed immediately, but put aside, to be opened at a later time. For guests, "when giving gifts of food or drink, make it clear that you do not expect it to be served at that event," says etiquette authority Marjabelle Young Stewart in her book, "Commonsense Etiquette."
http://www.post-gazette.com/food/2001022... Gooey, chocolaty, walnut Brownies, and a side of good vanilla ice cream. Yum. You could bake a chocolate cake.
Do you know what they like? Do you know if they are on a kind of diet?
You could do chocolate and raspberry cake. (I'm partial to this myself).

You could make a chocolate cheesecake.
You could bake a variety of cookies. Chocolate...hmm...I make a chocolate mint brownie that is liked by all. Because of the topping, you must eat with a fork on a plate...no hands. You can find a recipe for that on the internet.

Another suggestion...depending on the tastes of your boyfriend's family, you might want to go with something a bit more neutral. Not everyone likes chocolate - my husband, his mother, and sister are all lactose intolerant. So we usually have just cut up fruit or a fruit filled dessert - like blackberry cobbler.

Another one of my favorites - creme brulee with berries on the top.....everyone seems to like that one... i too am a chocolate fan myself. Do you know what is being served for dinner? Don't want to go to overboard if its a simple meal and don't want something to simple if it more up-scaled meal. It is the fall now, might want to think of something with apples. Everything from pies, cookies, cakes.

there are some killer recipes on this site and very easy to make

enjoy you meal!! Try doing a chocolate covered tray. What that is, is a try of things that are covered in chocolate. Chocolate covered strawberries, marshmellows, bananas, or even pretzel rods. Find out what your boyfriend's sister likes to eat and go from there. You can do this yourself the day before and put it in your fridge. Also, you can leave the extras for your host and it is something personal that everyone loves. Great bite size pieces. Hope your dinner goes good! Why not a chocolate coffee cake? Coffee cake is always nice after a meal, and goes well with coffee (of course) and teas... You can now purchase some very interesting cheese cakes that are pre-sliced and come in a variety of flavors in one cake.
You can get it w/ chocloate, strawberry and cherry.
Check it out, that way everyone can have something they each like without just limiting it too "only chocolate".

Have fun, I'm sure they will appreciate anything you take over. chocolate cake or cupcakes. Or go with something to celebrate autumn like apple pie or Carmel apple cobbler baked apples or apple cake.

ENjoy!
