Question:

What to serve with fried chicken, we are already have corn bread & mashed potatoes?

I made the mistake of agreeing to fix dinner on for my in-laws on Sunday & being completly unprepared. So far I have decided that we are having cornbread & chicken along with mashed pototoes & gravy. I'd like at least one more side dish & a nice dessert. I can cook anything but I just don't know what PLEASE HELP!!

Oh,just got an idea....what about steamed veggies nicely seasoned? Ok, for one thing you need to add some color ! Everything so far is basically about the same color. So we to put some jazz into it..spice it up.
I love to make spaghetti salad, you can make it up ahead (which is wonderful!), and it will keep for 10 days, which is a Big plus. I like it for lunch! Also, the good old fashion 7 layer salad, people sort forget about that one. Your idea of steamed veggies would be Great. too.....again it would add color !
Chocolate cake, I like making miracle whip cake....so simple ...so easy, so moist. My 3 sons are grown, and it's still their favorite.!
How about decorations.....Take a pumpkin, cut out the center, use as a vase, and fill with fresh flowers, ( need floral foam the soft kind to stick them in ) Looks like you went to a lot of work. Take a green pepper , try to find the flatest on bottom, hollow inside out.....fill with dip for fresh veggies.
Good Luck !!! corn grean beans and apple cobbler salad

Something soft, something crunchy
Something sweet, something savory

Make sure the colors contrast

Do not ever serve them chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes and bread. It might taste good, but it is all starch, all soft, and all the same color. I would suggest either corn on the cob or stuffing.
you could try deviled eggs or some sort of green vegetable. As for desert, I would go with cherry cheese cake, but I think about anything would work. Bon Apetite Make a green salad or pasta salad and have some kind of Apple dessert, apple pie, apple squares, apple cobbler, baked apples. Apples are so "Autumn" and are extremely tasty right now. How about some nice cole slaw and apple pie. coleslaw (good with fried chicken) & strawberry cobbler The veggies sound good. Maybe ask them what their favorite dessert is and fix that. If not, why not a chocolate cake or a cherry pie? Both of those are classics to go with your classic meal. corn and the desert should be ice cream. my favorite!! greened beans, (W.C.S. canned beans) lol. Hope this helps and have a great day! -question001 Cole slaw, refried beans, steamed broccoli, oven roasted vegetables, stirfried mushrooms, Ceasar salad, fries. potatoe salad, green beans how about corn, and for dessert apple pie? Could even have honey and butter to go with the cornbread.

Make ahead vegetable medley:

Broccoli florets, cauliflower florets, green pepper strips, red pepper strips, carrot sticks, some fresh green beans.
Steam each vegetable separately until desired cooked texture reached. Chill immediately, drain. Place in glass container. Add zesty Italian dress and red onion slivers. Toss and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Slaw, green beans, glazed carrots would also make a good side dishes.

Or a mixed salad green salad with toasted pecans, cranraisins, balsamic vinegar dressing.

Desserts:
Punch bowl cake with angel food pieces, cool whip, strawberries or peaches.

Strawberry shortcake.

Pineapple upside down cake.

Fruit pie with ice cream.

Baked cinnamon apples with nut and butter filling.

Chocolate dipped strawberries, or cherries with stems.

Pineapple/cherry kabobs using fancy toothpicks.

Cantaloupe and strawberry kabob. How about corn fritters, I always do these to go with fried chicken, these are delicious and easy, my kids love them.

4oz of plain flour
1 egg
1/4 pint of milk
11oz of tinned sweetcorn
salt and pepper.

Add the beaten egg and milk to the flour, beat to make a smooth batter, add the sweetcorn and salt and pepper.
add tablespoons of the mixture to hot oil and fry for about a minute each side Steamed veggies sound good, but I am partial to corn with chicken. Apple pie a-la-mode for desert.
