Desperate Housewives Themed Party!?!

Question:

Desperate Housewives Themed Party!?

I am turning 21 in about one and a half months. and i decided on a desperate housewives theme party. i want to have a section for each of the character on a table. with there picture and appetizers and food that fits their character. i want simple but creative. i dont want to have to spend to much time putting it all together. so if anyone has any ideas about the food. I also want decoration ideas, using the apple theme too. And different decoration ideas that fit well for the whole desperate housewive theme. Also, if anyone has any ideas on games in general. not necesseraly that go with the theme. and if anyone has any other cute ideas that would be nice too. I want to set up a bar. With pre made cocktails and stuff. So i dont have to mix any drinks myself. And any decoration ideas for the bar. And what pre made drinks are good to use. Ten points to the best answer. Please serious answers only. Thanks.

Answers: What a cool idea! There's actually a cookbook called the Desperate Housewives cookbook and it has recipes in there from each character, that would help you SO much! You can make dishes from each character and by the dish you can put who it's from. I have the book and you can get it I believe at Amazon.com, if not just put in a search for the Desperate Housewives cookbook and you should get places that carry it. I'm sure you will use it more than just the one time.

You can do each section like the person's house/area,even if you don't get the cookbook, watch what they eat and drink in the show. Lynette has the pizza place, so you can do a section for her and have beer/ wine and pizza or pizza bites for an appetizer, since they have the pizzeria/resturant. For Brie's section you can do dessert since she's always making muffins and things for the neighbors, or make it more fancy. The old woman that baby sat Lynette's kids always went to the freezer for ice pops, that's how we found out her husband was in the freezer, you can serve ice pops as a dessert too. See what the speciality is for each one and even if you don't buy the cookbook, see what each one eats or drinks on the show, there was one show they were drinking Margaritas I think it was on one of their porches.

You can do the pizza theme for Lynette, the ice pops for Mrs. McClosky, you can do a drink for Gabrielle, Susan can't cook on the show, but see what she does eat in the next few episodes to see what she does to eat, even if you order something. Then see what you can do Edie, and with Brie you can either do something fancy or do muffins or some kind of dessert.

If you go to the abc.com website and click on the Desperate Housewife link, there is a game on which housewife are you, maybe you can see how the game is done and the answers and play a version of it at the party. You can also get the desperate housewife game, there is one on the market, Toys R' Us, amazon.com, they all have it and I believe it's a trivia game, you can ask the guests questions and have prizes for the most answers right. You can also buy the Desperate Housewives book and come up with trivia from there, or even just write down your own trivia questions that you remember from the show and have prizes to the winner.

You can do a charades game based on the characters or scenes from the show, even the guest stars and have the scenerios written out and everyone picks each one, (folded in a bowl) and has to act out their character. Like the kids, guest stars, etc

You can also do a game of lines from the show and have guests figure out who said it. You can do a 20 questions type game with the theme of the show.

You can decorate for the party in the way that each character has their house, like one area more fancy for Brie and have the food that matches Brie in her corner, this way it's like visiting her house, then an area set up with an art easel and stuff for Susan's house and have her food in that corner, etc. You can have a tool area set up for Mike's house, etc. I hope I'm not babbling and not confusing! It's just such a cool idea!

You can make a little path in your house with laterns of light leading to each little area or "house" on Wisteria lane, you can even get Wisteria flowers and put them in vases.

I hope I haven't been just babbling and I hope these ideas help you. It sounds like such a fun idea for a party and you and your friends are going to have SO much fun! I hope you have a very, Happy Birthday and enjoy your party! try hawaiian style. That's a really cute theme!

For a simple pre-made cocktail, definitely go with a big punch bowl of Sangria. That's easy and you don't have to stress out mixing anything. Just soak some fruits with red wine and orange juice (different people have different recipes, it depends on what you like).

Not sure how complicated you want your menu to be! Perhaps something like:
Chips and salsa (SPICY GABRIELLE)
Brie cheese covered with almonds and baked, and crackers (BREE GONE NUTS)
Mini Pizzas & cookies (LYNETTE'S KIDS PATROL)
7 layer dip (THE CLUMSY SUSAN)
Mini Vienna sausages on toothpicks (EASY EDIE ...this one is a little naughty! haha)

HAPPY 21st!! Have fun! Didn't you ask this like 2 weeks ago?

Depending on the size of the party, you could focus on 5 inner themes if you will - for example: Have 5 tables - one for each character in the show - on each one could be a different type of food and/ or drinks. So for example on one table could be a Bree Van de Kamp theme with horsdevours that harken back to the fifties - all very prim and proper like Shrimp Cocktail, Stuffed mushrooms, and maybe a cheese ball. On table two, could be a Lynette Scavio table with pizzas - either mini or regular size. Table 3 - the Susan Meyer table - can be the chips and dips table since she's kinda a cluthc and a bit messy - some great dips would include cream cheese with either rasberry chipotle or regular salsa over it in a bowl, (serve crackers with the rasberry one and tortilla chips with the regular salsa). For Gabriella Solis' table, I think of salads - chicken salad, fruit salad, etc. and last but not least, Table 5 for Edie Brit - would be the sexy desert tables since she's such a tart - chocolate covered strawberries, mini cheesecakes, fruit tartlets, etc.

This would be for a fairly large party but you could pair it down for a smaller affair - say differnt stations on one table, pick and item for each member, etc.

For drinks, you could stick with the same types of drinks they have in the show - Assuming that you'll be celebrating your 21st with alcohol - Margaritas are often served on air. as are lemonade, wine, even a well placed martini.

Decorations can run the gamit - personally, I'd stick with silver and black decor and have everyone come dressed for a cocktail party - women in their little black dresses, etc. or you can have everyone dress as their favorite character so that even your guests are the decorations. Either way, I would keep decor to a minimum. If you stick with themed food - I'd put pictures of the character who inspired each offering on the tables maybe with a quick bio of each on posterboard or card stock as centerpieces - at ABC.GO.COM they have some great info about the characters to draw from.

For music, you could turn to the 50's for inspiration - afterall, that was the era of the housewife or stick with some of the musical choices that they've played on the show.

and for invites - you could pick different characters from the show as the cover and on the back put all the details about the party - the who what when why and where. Simply print out a character photo for each invite and attach to card stock.

Hope this helps! HAve a Great party!
