What is the best recipe for Southern Sweet Tea?


I'm looking for a relatively simple recipe that I can make a huge batch of for a party!! Help?!


Answers: I like to make a simple syrup of 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of water. Heat mixture over a medium heat until sugar is fully dissolved. Cool in mixture in the refrigerator.
Bring a quart of water to a boil and add 10 tea bags (Lipton or Luzzienne) let steep for 5 minutes. Add tea to pitcher and add another quart of water to it. I then add about a cup of simple syrup to the tea. Chill. Have plenty of lemon wedges and ice on hand.
I've been told for a Yankee I make pretty good sweet tea! Equal parts tea and sugar. 3 family sized Tetley tea bags, HOT water (1 gallon) and 1 and 1/2 cups of sugar. (splenda works too!!) let it steep for 2-3 hours. I'm not sure if this is alcohol related or not?? Southern Comfort is a good whiskey with tea...

If not, the best tea bags are Louizianne. Letting it steep for along time will bring about a good taste too...
Good luck. Use Lipton Tea Bags--just the regular ones. If you can, get the family size bags. For one gallon of tea, you can use either one or two bags. One will make weaker tea, two will make stronger tea. You should boil it in about two cups or more of water. Bring it to a sturdy boil, then take it off the heat. Put a cover on it and let it steep for 10-15 minutes. (If you're in a hurry, you can skip the steeping step and just let it boil for about 5 minutes, but no longer). While the tea is boiling or steeping, pour 1 cup of sugar per gallon into your pitcher. Add a little cold water to the sugar and stir till it's dissolved. I'm not exactly sure on why you dissolve the sugar in the cold water and not the hot tea, but I was told by my grandmother that it keeps the tea from being cloudy. Then pour the hot tea in, add water to finish filling the pitcher and stir. That's it, unless you want to add lemon wedges or slices. Some people don't like lemon in their tea though, so I suggest just putting the slices on the rims of the glasses, or leaving them in a dish on the table.
*I wouldn't put in more than 1 cup of sugar for a gallon. 1 cup makes a light refreshing tea. If you have too much, you get syrupy tea that just makes ya thirsty! If you're in the U.S. Look for a tea called Bonny Tea. It's a syrup with sugar and tea extracts and comes in a little quart container. 8 oz. make a gallon of sweet tea and at a quart, which is 32 oz. you'll get 4 gal out of it. But, I like to make it sweeter.

If they don't stock it, ask for it by name or write to Bonny Tea, Renewed Remedies, Colbert, Georgia 30628. I didn't know for years that this is a green tea and you won't either.

If you're in the U.K. The real secret to making sweet tea is taking the sugar and making it into a syrup first. Then, steep your tea, mix the two together. How much of what and which depends upon how sweet you like it and how strong.

Some people like lemon in their sweet tea but I don't.

Always serve sweet tea on ice in a large glass. Lemon slices on the rim is optional. Adding milk is unheard of. get u some luzzienne tea
