COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - This dessert may be a little too rich for you, but you're probably not rich enough for it. A Sri Lankan resort is charging $14,500 for what it calls the world's most expensive dessert, a fruit infused confection complete with a chocolate sculpture and a gigantic gemstone. "The Fortress Stilt Fisherman Indulgence" was created to give visitors at The Fortress resort in the coastal city of Galle a one-of-a-kind experience, said the hotel's public relations manager, Shalini Perera. The dessert is a gold leaf Italian cassata flavored with Irish cream, served with a mango and pomegranate compote and a champagne sabayon enlighten. The dessert is decorated with a chocolate carving of a fisherman clinging to a stilt, an age old local fishing practice, and an 80 carat aquamarine stone. The dessert has to be specially ordered, Perera said. Though the hotel has gotten calls about it from as far away as Japan, she said, no one has yet forked over the money to try it.

Personally, I find it ludicrous and just plain stupid. With all the hungry people in the world today, to pay that much for a dessert is a sin. The gem alone could feed a lot of people.

I have to agree with you, there is just so much waste in the world today, and people are becoming reckless in their hedonistic consumption. We should all look around us and ask if what we are doing is harmless, or are we bringing about the fall of humanity all too quickly. That is so crazy sounds good though but i agree thats too much money and who knows if its worth it? i dunno but Se me antoja, im craving it LOL! I'm sorry but that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Of course nobody has forked over the money, who would pay that much for a dessert??? It is totally ludicrous and only defines that those people are living for today not tomorrows satisfaction!!! If I had money to burn I would go on a Culinary tour of the worlds most expensive dishes. That's really cool. If someone wants to pay $14k for a dessert, its their money, so why not. Its just a way for the hotel to become better known, because all the articles and talk are free advertising. Someone will eat it, though, just to say they did it. Anyone who would do that just wants the bragging rights:) That's ridiculous but the dessert is good.
