How much ice cream should I buy?!

Question:

How much ice cream should I buy?

I'm hosting an ice cream social for my school - I'm expecting about 100-150 people. How much ice cream should I buy if I'm expecting them to eat 2 small bowls of ice cream?

also - what toppings should I offer? Peanuts, sprinkles, whipped cream, cherries, what else?

Answers: Don't forget different flavored syrups. I'd say 4 ounces per bowl, so 8 ounces per person = 8 gallons for 150 people (that's going a little over). I'd probably even go with a little more so you don't run out...ice cream keeps in the freezer. well, at aproxamately 2 scoops for kid... I have no idea. I suggest counting the ammount of scoops you normally take from a box, and then do 150/the answer that you get from that. (I'd actually do about 170/answer, because there could be extra). Then multiply by the ammount of scoops/kid.

Other toppings I'd suggest are:
-Chocolate surrup [sp?]
-Strawberry surrup [sp?]
-Chocolate chips
-Bannana slices

hope this helps! A half gallon has 16 servings so you could get 160 servings from 10 half gallons so I would get 20 plus some extras if they can serve themselves they will need two or three times as much and much more for older kids or adults. Figure that there will be six small servings in a half-gallon of ice cream. I would go with pecans instead of peanuts, as a lot of people today have peanut allergies. Otherwise, the toppings sound fine. Save money and use cool whip instead of real whipped cream- it's cheaper, and not much different in taste. Don't forget chocolate syrup! Yum. I would say around twenty of the 5 gallon buckets of ice cream. Make sure to buy Neapolitan flavor. You can buy the syrups both chocolate and strawberry, sprinkles, nuts, bananas, and other topping you might think of. U no the buckets of vanilla chocolate and strawberry are the ones you should buy, (i dont want you to waste 2 much money on this)

Choco sprinkles, Hot Fudge like hershes choco syrup, strawberries and bananas. those r my gesses depends on the weather if its hot it will sell better if its cold then you probably wont get as many sells.

good luck.
and get the huge buckets! there good and cheap of the 100-150... expect 75 to actually eat it... I'd be safe with 3 5 gallon tubs... vanilla, chocolate, strawberry.... get hershesy syrup and caramel sauce in squeezable bottle, anything else is going to be disaterous Plan on 1/2 to 3/4 cup per person, which amounts to 4 persons per half gallon of ice cream. Include vanilla, neopolitan, and cookies and cream. Sauces should include hot fudge, caramel, chocolate, pineapple, marshmallow and don't forget the whipped cream and cherrys! Also include chopped nuts, pecans and walnuts, as well as sprinkles and other ice cream toppers such as crushed cookies, candy bars etc. Have fun! One of those big drums of ice cream that you would buy from the ice cream store will serve 100. If you expect them to eat 2 small bowls, I would play it safe and get 3 drums. Be sure to talk with the ice cream store about how long before the event you have to set it out to thaw because it will be rock hard and you won't be able to scoop it. Use only vanilla ice cream. No other flavors or it will be a nightmare because people will tell you they want a scoop of EACH.

The toppings should be: chopped peanuts, sprinkles, chocolate syrup, strawberry syrup, marshmallow creme, maraschino cherries, and whipped cream in the can. (You can easily make the marshmallow creme by buying the marshmallow fluff. Empty into a bowl and slowly add a stream of boiling water, whisking continually. It should be pourable in consistency. Cheap and really impressive!) I would skip the carmel or butterscotch. It isn't a favorite anyway. If you are having an Ice Cream Social, get a bunch of volunteers to make homemade cupcakes. Use the box cake mix. Also see if there are brownie mixes on sale. I just bought Duncan Hines Brownie Mix for only $1. They could make a Brownie Sundae then. It will be an Ice Cream Social to remember then!
