How do I store dry ice, if I buy a couple of days before halloween?!

Question:

How do I store dry ice, if I buy a couple of days before halloween?

I put it in the freezer last year, and it dissapeared. Also, how do I use it in a cauldron? How to activate?

Answers: With dry ice being -109.3 deg F and your freezer about 0 deg F it will degrade rapidly. Wrap it in lots of newspaper tightly and put in a good cooler to surround it with it's own temp. Buy lots more than you need , or better yet, buy it at the last minute.Put small bits into water to produce vapor Remember Dry Ice temperature is about -30 degrees F and your freezer is only 0 degrees F so of course the dry ice disappears as a gas CO2 into the freezer because the freezer is too warm for it.
Get your dry ice as late as possible and then keep it well wrapped with newspaper -place it in the freezer if you have room. If you plan on getting only 10# or so you need to get it the day of the party. Dry ice should be 1) used as soon after purchase as possible and 2) stored in an insulated / airtight container.

To make "fog" or "smoke" add dry ice to hot water. Use a Styrofoam or insulated container. As the water cools, add more hot water to re-activate. All of the above suggestions sound right.

I wouldn't know where to get dry ice, but I'd sure like to get my (well protected) hands on some. It would be a lot of fun to put it into warmed, spiced cider and hand out at a Halloween party. Would look SO wicked!
