What is Supper?!

Question:

What is Supper?

Could you please tell me what exactly is supper? Is it something you have after dinner or is it another word for dinner....What sort of thing would you have for supper and what timeof day would you have it?

Answers: Supper is an optional meal which you can have before you go to bed, e.g. like cereal or toast. You have it after your tea, but the time you have it depends on when you go to bed. You shouldn't have it just before bed as it'll take ages to break down. Supper is a meal that you have in the evening....just like dinner. It depends on where you are from as to what you call the evening meal. Supper/Dinner/Evening meal -- all the same thing. Supper is just another term for dinner, people in the south and who are older are usually the ones that use that term. it is the main meal of the day, such as on sundays, supper would be around lunch time, i dont know exactly why but i have worked at retirement centers for quite sometime and that is what they all call it.hope that helps it's another word for dinner... it's the evening meal. I have wondered about this too, and from what I can see, it just depends on where you were from. Seems around the Boston area they used to have breakfast, luncheon, tea and dinner. Other places, luncheon has changed to lunch and then dinner as the retiring meal. Then other places lunch is changed to dinner as the big meal and supper as the retiring meal. Weird isn't it... I think supper means dinner, its another way 2 say dinner and its usually at dinnertime. My mom grew up in Missouri and breakfast was called breakfast, lunch was called dinner and dinner was called supper. Lunch or in her case dinner was always the big hearty meal of the day. Supper is another word for dinner. In Sheboygan, we always say supper. However 50 miles away any direction dinner is commonly used. Supper is used in the Eastern United States in the same way as "dinner" is used in the Western/western Mid-West half of the United States. When used as such, they're synonyms.

Not sure about the rest of the world. As per my understanding, supper is the last drink of the day which you have in night like milk or tea or some other drink.
