Have any ideas for an Oktoberfest/Octoberfest party?
I'm throwing an Oktoberfest-themed party for my friend's birthday, and I need ideas for decorations, food, games, etc. As far as decorations go, I'd prefer stuff I could possibly make myself, rather than buy stuff online (I've looked at a few websites already...). Thanks for any help you can give me!
Answers: I think it would be fun to have a couple of the girls (the cuter the better...or even hire someone) to dress as "beer wenches" and help serve the beers in traditional German dresses!
Buy a CD of traditional German Oom Pah Music to play (or hire a band for an hour or two....or even just an accordion player!)
Here's some ideas I found on a website... it's pretty cool:
Setting the Stage and Activities
Hold your party outside as they do in Munich. What a great reason to enjoy the autumn weather!
Decorate your tables with linens in the colors of the German flag: black, red, and gold.
Play traditional German music during your party and give your guests kazoos to play along.
Purchase a keg or two of German beer, or select a variety of bottled German labels for your party.
Cook up traditional German food. Go overboard in planning your quantities, as appetites are sure to increase with the crisp autumn weather.
Don't forget to gather the troops to do the Chicken Dance after everyone has guzzled a couple of beers.
Serve the brews in German beer steins.
When your guests become bored with the Chicken Dance, line them up for beer stein races. Fill their hands with loaded steins and have them race to a finish line. The person to finish with the most beer left in his stein wins the race. Then he can drink it!
The Food
Your menu should include, among other items, beer (!), German sausages, hot German potato salad, sauerkraut, sweet and sour cabbage, German-style chicken, and black forest cake. Source(s):
http://entertaining.about.com/cs/laborda... Make sure you rent or buy the movie "Beerfest". look up random Oktoberfests online... many towns have them and have websties for them..... You should be able to look at the pics and get tons of ideas. Otherwise Beer steins, anything German and lots of beer. Good luck Look at Google images of Munich. Beer gardens, the Rathauskeller(sp) good looking German girls hoisting those big beer steins. Germany is a great country to visit so your local travel agent will have colorful brochures and posters, ask! Have fun. check out www.germandeli.com . . . they have all kinds of cool things . . . foods, drinks, decorations . . .
for things to serve, i suggest some woodruff syrup in white beer - it is really awesome and unique!
