Answers: I could give you a more specific answer if I knew the age group and the amount of people attending. As a general answer to your question...Look at these sites for some ideas.

NOTE: If you plan on having your party in a hall, it is not too soon to book it. Most places raise the cost of renting their hall for New Years Eve. Depends on the type of people you are inviting. If these are older, mature people and not more than 20 total coming, then you can have it at home. If more and they are immature, definitely have it some place else.
Lot of snacking food, no big meals. Wings, kabobs, meatballs, have a selection of liquor and mixing combinations so people can make their own drinks. Keep ginger ale, orange juice and a few sodas on hand for the non drinkers. apple bobbing is good fun and egg throwing We've had a family poker tournament party for New Year's since 1999. The grandkids have gotten older but they still show up. We all chip in and have a last man standing pot. Pretty simple food (sometimes potlick sometimes hosted) sandwiches, chips, brownies, chili. The kids bring their friends too. By the way it is usually someone under 16 who wins the pot. I think because they are more awake than we are. You might rent some other type of gaming tables if this idea appeals to you. Have a card or Vegas theme. We usually host about twenty in our home. Provide hats and noisemakers for midnight. One year we added safe and sane fireworks. When the little ones were really little we'd set up a guest room with a T.V. , videos, snacks and sleeping bags so they were close but could sleep if they wanted to. Now I'd like to have a dress up party with some more elegant foods and attire but I think that is still a few years off. This past year a lot of us had to work for New Years and the hubby thought no one wanted to have the party . We ended up having it a few days before Christmas. So I guess we created a tradition. Have Fun!!!
