Answers: you have to look at the situation. is it a BBQ? is it just pizza ordered in. Or if its a bigger meal that is fancier, then paper plates are not good. would you want to east mashed spuds and gravey on a paper plate. even if you get the foam one, if you are having steak, when you cut the steak, you cut into the foam. If you use real dishes most of your guests will offer to help with the dishes. I would skip the paper plates. wasteful, but not tacky. i only give paper plates to family...lol...and for us its not tacky... with a houseful of kids, some days i would rather not have half my dishes broken...
but for guests, no use regular... for pizza. no for steak or formal dinner, yes. Yes. If you insist, for some reason, not using proper plates, at least get some heavy plastic ones. Go to Your local Dollar Tree and get some dinner plates. They cost $1. each. Most are clear, but some are more decorative. well it's up to you and your guests to decide if that's tacky, but it is DEFINATELY very useful... just toss the paper plates out instead of doing the dishes ;] not unless if u use those beautiful looking and thick paper plates...beats having to do dishes later right? That depinds upon the type of meal Really depends on the type of party you are having. If its for friends/family or things like picnic,BBQ then paper plates are totally appropriate. If its more formal- having boss over, dinner date, then you should go with plates. It also can depend on your table setting- you set the tone. Depends on the friends and depends on what you're serving.
REAL good friends that will hold your head over the toilet bowl after you've been drinking are cool with paper plates! Hell, they don't mind about paper cups and plastic forks either!
If you're serving appetizer style food or pizza, paper plates are fine. Casual food is OK with paper plates,
If youre planning on serving a full sit down meal, I'd get some stoneware/ceramic plates. Walmart always has boxed dinnerware sets for a reasonable price. It depends.
First, how close are you to the people you invited? Are they good friends whom you feel comfortable being casual with. If so, go ahead.
Second, what are you serving? For BBQ's, pizza, picnics, or casual food like that in a casual setting, I'd say it would be fine. depends what meal you are serving. if it is something more formal, then use plates, and if its casual, feel free to use plates. It depends on the food, the setting (indoors or out, decorations, etc.), and the occasion. Not tacky at all if they're the kind of friends or family that would help with the dishes after wards ! My best friend has a rib cook out on the fire pit. We eat off newspaper, the best ribs and best time ever. I wouldn't call that tacky ! I would use regular dishes, but of course, it depends on who is coming, how much time you have to prepare for them, what you are serving, inside or outside, etc. I buy plastic plates at the Dollar Tree (3 in a bunch) for $1.00 that look like little lunch trays. Those are for the little people. Big people get real plates. What about your eating utensils? If you use paper plates, are you going to use plastic disposable???? Good Luck. Lori.
