Breakfast side dishes?!

Question:

Breakfast side dishes?

My parents are coming into town and I'm making a new egg dish--it's eggs, bacon, cheese, and bagels baked with some other random ingredients. I've never cooked for them before (I have for others, just not my parents) and want to make things look good for them. I will probably make a fruit salad, but what else would be a good side?

Answers: Maybe some lemon bread or muffins...I like the idea of a fruit salad. If you want another starch, make some hash browns. Gosh, your main dish has just about every breakfast food in it already. You've already covered the fruit, bread, eggs, and meat. I can't think of another thing. Like you said some fruit and or muffins. When is all of this going to happen? I would like to stop by for breakfast with you. That sure sounds good to me. Good luck to you. How about a ham and cheese spoonbread? It's on epicurious.com and I know I totally love it. The ham would complement the bacon too. Or a French toast? Biscuits and gravy? Definitely the fruit salad---other than that, some hash browns or home fries might be yummy. Good luck! Your breakfast sounds lovely.Adding the fruit salad would be great and maybe some hash browns on the side.
Or you could do mellon slices, pineapple slices, orange wedges, grapefruit wedges and grapes etc. on the side.
Your recipe pretty much has it all covered.
Good luck and enjoy your time with your parents. Fresh fruit is a great breakfast side. You could also serve grits or hominy with syrup/butter on the side. Grilled tomato slices, topped with parmesan cheese buttered crumbs. You may not need more than what you are already planning. What do your parents like to eat in the morning? What do they like to drink?

We serve grits with everything, you could try plain grits or garlic grits.

How about broiled tomatos or broiled grapefruit?

I still think a nice fruit salad would be the best side dish...try using fresh, locally grown, in season fruits as the main ingredients.

Pumpkin bread, apple bread, cranberry bread, pear bread....or any combo....easy to make and serve. Serving some type of fruit with that dish would definitely pair well. However, if you wanted to add something else, I think that some type of oatmeal would go well with it. There is a really great recipe for a baked oatmeal that is excellent with raisins and pecans in it! If you'd like the recipe for that, just email me and I'd be glad to give it to you. Hope your breakfast turns out the best and that you're parents are well pleased with all of your efforts!
