Answers: There's nothing wrong with bangers burgers and chicken drumstix for an inexpensive BBQ, - also have plenty of fresh salad and fresh crusty stix of bread cut at an angle.

Your family are coming to see you, be yourself, don't worry about the BBQ,- be happy and let them know in a nice way how content you are with what you have.

Good Luck.....Enjoy it.......No worries........xxxx If you try to impress, it probably won't work. Just cook what you love, serve with skill and be charming. Good luck. Keep it simple Hon, just have an old fashioned picnic... buy some basic fun colored flat sheets (twin so you can use them later on the kid's beds) to use as table cloths, bandannas for napkins, a big colored bucket to ice down cold drinks in & a large jug of sweet tea, use old jam jars as glasses. Quart size jars weighted down with rocks will hold wild flowers nicely. Basic BBQed pork ribs, chicken too if you have the$, potato salad, Pasta salad (or green salad), corn on the cob, baked beans and fresh bread!

What is important here is your total grace and being at ease with your family. Don't set out to impress, let them be impressed with the wonderful person you are! Have fun, enjoy your family, eat good food, relax! 1ST MAKE SURE THE FOOD IS GOOD AND SEASON THE FOOD PERFECT HAMBURGERS CHICKEN AND YOU CAN BUY SOME SHISH KEBOBS TO MAKE IT LOOK FANCY EVEN MAKE A SALAD NOT EXPENSIVE BUY THE ANGUS HAMBURGERS GOOD TASTE ALWAYS WIN OVER LOOKING NICE EVEN GET SOME PORK CHOPS OR STEAKS MIGHT EVEN WANT TO MARINADE THEM Do the best that you can, live within and entertain within your means, the time spent together is foremost not what you can provide to them. OMG I have your solution. We did the same thing. We bought a big piece of meat from costco. My husband bought it so I couldn't tell you the name exactly but I think any big piece of meat would work. Even a pork shoulder.
Anyway, put salt and pepper on it and bbq it for about 4-5 hours. Charcoal bbq of course.
Then, I made chimichurri which is really easy.
I put these ingredients in the food processor or blender:
parsley, cilantro, garlic, olive oil, cumin, cayanne, salt, pepper, lemon. Then when you blend it heat it up in a pan. You can use it to baste your meat or just as a condiment after.
It smelled so good and made things really tasty.
Anyway, about the meat, when it's finished cooking cut it up in peices, that way a little goes a long way.
You can serve rice which is cheap and baked beans as the sides.
This was the cheapest and tastiest bbq ever. Oh, the meat was less than $20.
Hope you like this idea. I think your guest would appreciate the effort of making the sauce. It is really tasty. forget about the food.

rent a big screen HDtv
were talking like huge.

make it a potluck and if they ask why you changed it to a potluck simply point to the TV. chicken is inexpensive, if you marinate it, with some garnish, it would be very nice. Make some salads, like Caesar, so there isn't many toppings to buy. And some baked potatoes with lots of toppings, bacon, cheese, sour cream, green onions, kinda make it a potato bar. All of this is very inexpensive, but impressive. I know tri tip is on sale at Safeway right now (if you have one where you live) for 50% off. Good luck. Here's a recipe for a cheese dip that I make at all my BBQ's and it's a hit every time! The best part is that it is very inexpensive to make! Hope this helps! Enjoy!

1 large block of Velveeta "mild" cheese
1 pound of hamburger
2 cans of Rotel
1 package of taco mix
1 white onion

Cube the entire block of Velveeta cheese and throw it into a crock pot on high. As it melts, cook the hamburger in a pan on the stove, drain the grease and add the package of taco mix & some water. Chop the onion, and saute in butter in a separate smaller pan. Mix the onion into the hamburger and set aside. After cheese has melted, stir in the two cans of rotel and add your hamburger meat! Make sure you turn down the crock pot to a low setting and Voila!
