Back Yard BBQ Ideas?!

Question:

Back Yard BBQ Ideas?

I just moved to FL and have a new job. I want to make friends with coworkers and neighbors, so I've decided on a BBQ next weekend. My house is a fixer uper with very little space, so I'm starting to regret the desicion. I've invited people so I must go through with it. Andy ideas to distract people from the hole in the wall I live in and intersting themes I can use? Any advice at all?

Answers: You have gotten some really great answers already. Food and beverage are always necessary. Seating is again necessary. You sound worried that your new home isn't in the shape you were hoping for but as long as its clean most people won't care.

If you want to make it really interesting why not get your new friends, co workers, neighbors into the spirit and ask them for ideas for a specific room. Since they live there they will be able to direct you to all the local / nearby home and building supply stores as well as other little places where bargains may be hiding.

This way they while they may notice the defects in the structure they will know you already know, and who knows maybe your next bbq will be a house repair party! Be a lovely and lively hostess, have fun and don't worry about the house. Make sure you have food (burgers & dogs) and drinks (sodas & beer & wine) and ask them about fun places to go visit, their favorite restaurants, etc. to prepare the meat get beef and cut it into thin strips
get a deep dish and put the meet in it
cut onions and put them in the dish
cut garlic and put in the dish
get ANY marinades at least three and pour 1/3 of the bottle in the dish of each marinade
then put one can of beer
and half a bottle of white 13% alcohol wine
then stir with your hands and let it lit overnight
then use natural coal for best taste
there will be no taste or wine or beer How lovely ! You are doing a really fun thing. Don't worry to much about the house, heaven knows mine is in constant need of attention. Just try to relax and enjoy your new friends. Try a theme like a Jimmy Buffet party, or a Flamingo party...you can find all kinds of fun things at your local dollar store. Where are you from? Take some ideas from where you used to live. Clean that morning, using lemon oil for the lovely smell, make sure your bathroom has cute little hand towels, get some festive paper plates, and some good music on the stereo, you will be great. We always like to cook out here, and usually we end up talking long into the night with some Christmas lights hung around the tables, and fresh fruit cut up and a good dip for them. Make sure you have plenty of seating. If you can't afford to get more, it is best to tell your friends to bring a lawn chair. Make sure you have some bug spray on hand too.
Have fun ! Just make sure there is plenty of great food and drink for everyone. You can lay out a nice spread of fruits such as watermellon, cantaloupe and veggies such as celery, broccoli, and carrots, chips, sodas, etc. Cover the hole in the wall with a poster, picture, or colorful garden flag. Make sure your house is clean and all will go well. Also make sure that you have plenty of seating. You can buy cheap plastic chairs or folding chairs from walmart, target, or kmart or a dollar store. And be sure to just relax and have a good time. If people see how relaxed and comfy you are, then they will respect and admire you. Try to keep enough going on outside that they don't really need to go inside. You can also tell people that you just don't have the house completed like you want yet but its a work in progress. rent a tent for the backyard and fix it with little white xmas lights. Just let them go to the bathroom inside the house.
