What were they thinking recipes?
I picked up "Your Complete Guide to Home Entertaining" from a second hand store 1960
One of the "recipes" for what it likes to call " tiny tempters" is
Bolongna Boats
Place american cheese on slices of bologna heat in broiler until bologna curls serve with crackers
wow doesnt that sound yummy
and this book also suggest how many maids you need to serve your "tiny tempters" so this is not for cheapy parties

www.lileks.com Actually, my grandma lives in a small Dutch town and fried bologna is a staple! It almost takes on a smoked/bacon-ey flavor. Although, I don't see it as being a fancy party appetizer! Yick!
