What would be good birthday plans for my husband?!

Question: his birthday is in two days. we're a young couple in our mid-20's. i've come up with dead ends and/ or running out of ideas. there are no sporting events he would like to go to that are around the date. we need it to cost LITTLE to NO money (like $30 and under). the typical dinner and a movie will NOT work, it needs to be something fun and creative. we have two small kids so something preferably out of the house. we live in missouri and traveling is not an option. last year i had a surprise bday party at hooters when the broncos played that night. the year before we went to st louis for the weekend to the casinos. i feel like i have to compete with these prior years, but this year we have to keep it dirt cheap. i know he would be hurt if i didn't do anything so i at least need to get him a gift or make plans, but i really have no idea this year. please help!

I don't know what the weather is like there, but if it's nice, you could go on a picnic. Make a really nice meal and bring some champagne. Go for a hike after wards?

Or could you have a BBQ at a friends house? Have over all his close friends, have a chill evening.

Or have the kids stay over with the grandparents, and have a romantic evening at home. Dinner, candles, lingerie ;).
It's fall time - can you take him and the little ones to a Cider Mill for the day? Or the Zoo? Something out of doors might be nice - it's a beautiful time of year for us Mid-westerners.
He should know your financial situation and should not compare birthday plans with the past. Why not have the kids spend the night at family or friends and have a special night in? Romantic setting, music, candles, dinner etc.
Show up at his work wearing a long raincoat with nothing under it. Then take him out to lunch that way.
Make him a romantic diner and make it your own. You have to realize that it is the thought
that counts. Do any thing you and him like. Buy a family game and play with the kids, just make it unqie and your own.
Hard to come up with anything with a budget of under $30. I think making him a nice candlelit dinner at home is a good idea. Have the kids babysat at someone's home and make a romantic night out of it. He might like it too if you "dressed-up" for him.
