Surprise birthday party?!
Answers: i was playing around with the idea of throwing my mom a surprise birthday party on the 28th of OCT.------and i was thinking that maybe we should have a theme, and have the guests bring gifts according to the theme----any suggestions?????? thanks in advance!
I agree that your mom may not be thrilled with a surprise-but you know her best!
I have seen this theme at a recent bridal shower and thought it was really cool! It's called a 24 hour Theme/Round the Clock (I forgot what it's exactly called)
Here is the concept: Each guest is assigned to a 'time' on the clock in their invitation. The idea is that the guest bring a gift that corresponds with the time.
Examples:
6:30 am- Maybe you mom is drinking her coffee/tea; the guest might bring a nice coffee or tea basket
8:00-Driving to work-perhaps the gues can bring a few of mom's favortie CD's to listen to in the car
12 noon- Perhaps mom is having her lunch, the guest can bring some nice new Tupperware containers so she can pack her lunch
And so on. My time was 7:00 pm, so remembering this was a bridal shower, I brought a bottle of wine with engraved glasses and some gourmet chocolates thinking the couple would enjoy a glass of wine with dessert after dinner. (My friend LOVES good chocolates!)
Like I said, it was a bridal shower but can easily be adapted for a birthday party. Presents were opened according to time. It took good planning to make a list of the time for each guest. It really was a lot of fun!
Good luck!
If you want people to bring gifts according to the theme you should pick a theme that she likes.
give her something sweet and simple
Have a "pleasure party" in which people bring sex toys.
First, make sure that your mom likes surprises. I just had a surprise birthday bash for my boyfriend, and even though he was a trooper (trip to Vegas with friends and fam), I think he would have preferred if it was just the two of us. After you've established that, definitely go with a theme that she will enjoy. Good luck and have a great time!
I went to a birthday party recently where they played "Host a murder mystery". Its where everyone is assigned a character and comes dressed as the character with a script. It was a lot of fun.
But better yet, I am sure your mom has a hobby or intrest that you could create a theme around....
maybe she wanted to be a rock star...have everyone dress up as their favorite musician, and have a karokee machine
or she wanted to be a movie star...host an oscar party with her as the star
all the gifts she receives can coordinate with the theme of the party
