Anyone ever had a luau? Need ideas...?!

Question: I don't mean gone to one, like in Hawaii, I mean have one in your back yard. My daughter wants to have one for her 21st Birthday. Of course we will have food and drink. And we are hiring a DJ. All of her friends will be there, and they are all 21 or over. Someone suggested having a Limbo contest. Does that seem too juvenile? Does anyone have any other suggestions for things we can do?

Luaus are awesome! Basically it is about having fun with Ohana (family) in a backyard BBQ way. Set up a kiddie pool with some beach chairs around it so people can put thier feet in. Get some blow up palm trees to put up around the yard. You have to have tiki torches or candles. I don't know what kind of food you are serving but the traditional luau food is a ground baked pig. I don't suggest that, but have some pulled BBQ pork, some pineapple chicken, rice, coconut cake. Drinks are a must for any luau. Make lava flows (pinacolada with pureed strawberry drizled on the inside of the glass) put little pinapples on the edges with a fancy straw. Limbo is a great idea although the luaus I have been to haven't had it.
I'm sure they can entertain themselves just get food; drinks and a nice cake. I guess dancing would be fun. =X
Hula-hoop contest, hula dancing, pinapple eating contest no hands.
do shish-ke-bobs
have all the ingredients and let everyone make there own

Have lots of veggies cut up in big chunks
Choice of meat, chicken & shrimp

Do a mix also of fruits and either grill them or use it to dip in a fuit dip of sour cream and marshmellow cream or a caramel dip
We had a luau this past summer. Mostly everyone was an adult and it was a blast.
We went to a party store and got plastic leis (4/$1) and gave them to guests as they arrived. I went out and bought canned and fresh fruit (pineapple (canned), strawberries, kiwis, papaya) and made fruit kabobs (baboo skewers i found at $1 store). Tiki torches at wal-mart and lined the way to the backyard. And yes we did have Limbo (voluntary) except we never got around to it.
As for drink Blue Hawaiians, pina coladas, sea breezes, all the fruity drinks...
No way! I had a luau party last summer with limbo and I'm 26, and everyone had a great time. We had leis and fun decorations, had everyone dress in hawaii-garb, had luau music, it was great.
