You could organize some party games to keep them occupied.
One thing you could do is go around askin your friends a week before the party about what music they like. You could compile a list and download them (or buy them of itunes).
Using this music you could organize a dance competition with a prize for the winner which you or someone else can judge. It will be great fun and get everyone involved. And if anyone is too shy to do it, you could always do a silly dancing competition instead for a laugh.
Another great game is the chocolate game.
For this you will need:
*The biggest bar of chocolate you can find!
*a knife
*a fork
*a scarf
*gloves
*A dice
What you do:
*Decide who starts off. They put on the gloves and scarf on and pick up the knife and fork
*Then you start the game. The elected person has to start cutting into the chocolate with the fork and knife as fast as possible to break bits off which they can eat (but they can only eat it if they broke it off with the fork and knife, not hands). However at the same time the other people go around the circle taking it in turns to roll the dice. Once someone rolls a 6, the elected person has to pass the gloves, scarf, knife, fork and chocolate to that person, ending their go, and ending their chance of getting any more chocolate!
The reason why this is so fun is because everyone is frantic to get as much chocolate as possible (this game will especially appeal to the girls) and so the game stays fast moving! The chocolate is the prize, so the more chocolate you break off the more chocolate you will get, and the more likely you will win. You could keep a tally if you want.
If you want to get messy you could see who can pick the most smarties out of a bowl of flour with their mouths (seeing people with their faces covered in flour is halarious!) or have a slime fight! (go to http://www.essortment.com/hobbies/funcra... or http://chemistry.about.com/cs/howtos/ht/... Beware: make sure the glue is washable!).
You could also ask people to bring their favourite movies and ask them to dress up as the main character if poss. You could have a theme for the films (e.g all of them have to be horror movies) or even for the whole party!
Or you could have a backyard party. You could string lights up, hook up a stereo and get a DJ. You could even have a bonfire.
Food:
You could set up a taco bar and let the guests build their own tacos. Provide taco shells or tortillas, taco meat mixture, chopped tomatoes, cheese, lettuce, onions, hot sauce, salsa and sour cream.
Or they could have just plain burgers, fizzy drinks, sandwiches, fried chicken, pizza or anything from the local takeaway. Maybe you could ask the guests sometime before the party what they would like to order from some sort of takeaway list (although as it's your bday, you choose the takeaway place a food type e.g- chinese, indian..) so that on the night the food can be ordered quick'n'easy a delivered and eaten with no hassle!
This website gives you inspiration as it shows you what other people have done for parties:

I hope all this helps!
Could be good but will people be obliged to go to family parties etc on New Years Eve? Might be a poor show. Fancy dress is always a laugh! If you have your party mid to end of Jan its something to look forward to after xmas and everything is over...
Music ++ Alcohol always makes a great party :]
all i can say is dont advertise it om myspace or facebook or bebo as you'll have gatecrashers!!!!!
can i come??? pleaaaaasssssssseeeeeeeeee.
Good music, little adult supervision, and alcohol make a great party. -s
have it on the roof of your school that should be fun! :)
I think it would be a good idea to hire a hall--I defiantly wouldn't have it in your own house if you are planing on having quite a few friends--you can get a caterer to do food or if your on a tight budget make your own buffet-
-maybe if you know any young guys who have a band ask them if they would do a live gig for you --I'm sure there would be loads of young guys who would like to try our there band at a party-not play all night say one hour--
Maybe get some of your girlfriends to help decorate the hall in some theme--say Dirty Dancing or what ever you guys are into-dark lighting and good music -glitter lights etc
If you have older brothers or sisters or even cousins maybe it would be a good idea to ask a few of them also just in case there is any trouble and then you wouldn't have to have parents that's if you would rather not-have a great party
I don't let my daughter go to late night parties on New Year's or any holiday because all the alkies and nut jobs are out then. Other parents might do that, too.
You could have
- Dancing
- Karaoke
- Movies
- Lots of food and snacks
I think your idea for a birthday/New Years' party is great!
