Making food for 80 people is a lot, take as many shortcuts as you can.

First have a few diffent types of dip. First Knorr's veggie soup mix bread dip. It's really easy to double, triple or even quadruple. Serve with the rest of the bread. The second is a really easy dip that sounds nasty, but everyone loves. Spread 2 softened containers of sour cream in a pie pan and top with a jar of salsa. Bake in a 400 oven for about 5 - 7 minutes, you just want it semi hot, not bubbling. Serve with tortilla chips. If you want to make it really fancy use blue corn tortilla chips. And of course, veggies and dip. The beauty of all these dishes is they can be made at least the day before.

Shrimp coctail is also a good option. You can buy them frozen already in a ring with cocktail sauce. The key to making this seem a little fresher is to defrost them in the sink upside down poking small holes in the plastic so the majority of the liquid drains out, then right before you are about to serve it squeeze some fresh lemon juice over the top.

Another really easy thing to do is stuffed bread. Again these can be made the night before. Get pre made pizza dough and stuff with different fillings. Generally I do a broccoli and cheddar; mozz, fresh basil, and fresh tomatoes; mozz and a mixture of Italian cured meats; ham, swiss and dijon mustard. Roll up and cover and let rise again before you bake. They literally take minutes to prepare. If you make two of each they will even go quicker. The great thing about these is they taste good piping hot or room temp.

I don't remember the exact recipe for this, but you can find it on the pillsbury website. It's a veggie pizza made with crescent rolls. If you have a crockpot some type of meatball would be good. I perfer sweedish, but you could do sweet & spicy or meatballs in marinara. It's a cliche but they always go over well.

Dips are always good, with cut up vegetables and pita bread. You can't go wrong with spinach dip (Knorr vegetable soup mix has a killer recipe on the box).

You can also do sliced cold cut trays, trays of cheese cubes, antipasto selections.

Soy sauce and vinegar chicken wings are delicious hot or cold: Marinate chicken wing drumettes in a mixture of half soy sauce, half vinegar. Bake at 350 until fully cooked (about 30 minutes).

The frozen foods section at Kroger has some really cool little hors d'ouvres, things like miniature egg rolls, pizza rolls, those sorts of things. They heat up VERY fast on a cookie sheet and stay warm for a while under foil.

What sort of a reception is it? This would help with sorting out the foods. I'll check back and edit my answer if you add more detail.

You take think sliced beef (like buddig wafer meat) and spread cream cheese on it then rollup green onion or a dill pickle spear in it and cut them. they take a bit to make but can be done the night before and they are usually a big hit. Is this reception formal or not? that really matters. but here are some ideas you could use. mini quiches, crudites are nice, crab cakes, swedish meatballs, beef/vegee patties, spring rolls, herb roasted potatoes.

Here are some ideas:

1. Cheese platter with Spanish Manchenga, Brie, Fontina, Irish Cheddar, and Gouda. Serve with lavosh crackers and crisp green seedless grapes.
2. Cured meats, such as sopressata, capicola, peppered salami, prosciutto, served with sweet hot and spicy mustards and thin slices of baguette.
3. Baked ham for mini sandwiches, served with a cranberry mustard and mini corn muffins
4. Lobster salad served on japanese soup spoons (you can buy them cheap at an Asian food market)
5. Mini empanadas (made with pre-bought pie crusts and filled with a mixture of ground beef, onion, raisens, and a little curry powder, or your favorite recipe)
6. Asparagas spears, cooked crisp tender, and wrapped with prosciutto
7. Fresh fruit kabobs with a honey yogurt dip
8. Flatbread sandwichs with turkey, lettuce, tomato, and a teriyaki dipping sauce (roll them up and cut them into 1/2 inch slices, secure with toothpicks)
9. Homemade clam dip with bake chips
10. Hot Artichoke and Crab dip with blue corn tortilla chips.
11. Desserts can include mini lemon tarts, cookies, brownie bites, raspberry white chocolate bars etc.
