If you know a guest does not like onions, do you still put them in the salad, or put them on the side?!

Question: If it's a guest... then no onions. I like onions and so what I'd do is put them on the side so my guest doesn't have to suffer them in his / her dish.

Let the guest put them on the side.

it depends how much people are eating if it's like a barbacue and 2o people are going to eat let the one person but it on the side by him/herself.But if it was a dinner for a bout 1 or two you can make them their own special salad(if you can be stuffed)

put the onions on the side

I usually make the salad and divide it into 2 bowls. One 'with' and one 'without'. It's thoughtful to provide it two ways and it's appreciated by those that just can't stand onions.

we mostly put onions on the side if having such guests so if others want it they can have it

if it's an intimate dinner, etc...why not offer two different types of salads, one with and one without; after all, you invited this guest, and part of being a good hostess is catering to your guests. if i want to have you over for dinner & know you're allergic to peanuts, i'm not going to serve you peanutbutter bread and just have a "oh well, she just won't have any bread" mentality.

put them to the side

I never put onions in salads. Most people I know dislike onion in a salad.
Considering the vast range of fruit and vegetable options we have available to include in salads, it's not necessary to even include it as a side dish.
Consider using other flavour options. There's a lot of different fresh herbs that you can add to a salad: coriander, parsley, mint, basil, and so on. You can even add strawberries or chunks of melon to add flavour.

If it's a large gathering, then I'd just make the salad, and if people don't like certain ingredients they can remove them. If it's a small occasion with only that person, or one or two others, I'd just make everyone a separate salad, to their taste.

they can pick them out, it wont kill them.

Your guest, then it's up to you to make there visit pleasant.

If you are making individual salads, leave the onion out of their serving. If you are making a large bowl of salad, put some rings of onion on top around the edges,so people can take some if they like.

Onions are not one of my favorite foods, but if someone was nice enough to invite me to dinner, I would not make a big deal out of it. With the big chunks on onion I just move them to the side of my plate, otherwise I just eat it.

dont make more work for yourself add the onions and if people dont like them then letthem pick them out!

take it easy just put them on the side...
i hate tomatos to death and i can't force everyone else to not eat them or out them in the salad i just remove them from my plate!!!

If I knew that, I would just put the onions on the side... like a topping kind of thing. Let them prepare their own kind of salad. Have a bowl of onions, nuts, and what-nots on the serving table or wherever. My dinners usually are self-serve so there are options on what you get. In case someone's allergic or dislikes a certain food.

Let the Guest embarrass him/her self by dissecting what you have prepared

Put them on the side.
