Can anyone give me another word for "buffet"?!

Question: We are writing out invitations for our babys naming ceremony, and don't like the word buffet much. We would like to have said "summer tea", but it's not summer! Any ideas??

how about Brunch.. light breakfast/lunch or

canapes/refreshments

or luncheon..

or autumnal feast

"Afternoon tea" Or you could word it as an early evening meal.

Fall festival, fall brunch

just say lunch will be provided or lunch served at 12:00 or something. or if you're going to the church then going to your house say lunch to follow at our residence.

Finger food

You are invited to join us for some Nibbles. Buffet is a strange word.

A traditional form of buffet in Sweden is the sm?rg?sbord, which literally means table of sandwiches.

nibbles, food reception, late lunch/luncheon.

Autumn (or fall) Gala?
Fall Feast?

Fukc off ya big soft puddin.
How d'ya like those apples?
Are you for fukcing real ya big pansy?
What rhymes with buffet? you muppet!

These are all accepted variations on the word/event buffet where I come from. How about that?

snacks ,dips and cold meats, dips and things.

informal luncheon if its lunch time can't think of a nice way to say buffet sorry

Whats wrong with the word buffet.Everyone attending will be thinking buffet however you want to fluff it up.A buffet by any other name is still a buffet.

Snack ?
Or most commonly, you will be serving "Refreshments"

help yourself.

whats wrong with a buffet!its not the name.its the food you provide, its not all rolls and salad, you control the menu, use prawns etcnice hams and good quality bread, and a good selection of cheeses

Autumn Gala ... sounds good

Light luncheon or buffet are perfect for babys naming ceremony.Never abbreviate the word luncheon.

In the United States, a buffet is often referred to as a "spread." I think it sort of implies a spread of various kinds of food and drink.

Roget's Thesaurus says: cafe, cafeteria, counter, cupboard, lunch wagon, salad bar, shelf, sideboard, snack bar, table.

I also thought of:

Spread (though probably the opposite direction of what you're looking for),
Tapas bar/spread (or similar description of tapas style lunch/dinner rather than just 1 word),
Afternoon tea,
Evening tea,
Refreshments (?).

I see what you're getting at, and wouldn't really be entirely satisfied with anything I've suggested above either, but I suspect there really isn't a suitable word/phrase to substitute for buffet to achieve the vibe you're looking for.

indoor picnic!

I did some temp hotel work years ago, and i remember carrying this really heavy tray, with a varity of delicious Canopays! for a eve dinner party.

Also if you were going to have cakes, perhaps you could add in some petit fours.

So my suggestions are:

Delicious Canopays, including a selection of Petit Fours

sm?rg?sbord

cold table
nosh
grub

Snack Bar.
Light refreshments
Why not just "TEA"?

no ideas

How about "Celeberation Party" ?

finger food?
