Someone Offered to bring birthday cake to my Halloween Party.?!

Question: I'm having a Halloween Party and it just so happens to be on (or near) a young guest's (3 yrs.) birthday. Her grandmother (my mother-in-law) has told us she wants to bring a birthday cake to celebrate. Is it wrong of her to ask or wrong of me to tell her no? This is my Halloween party, not some child's Bday party. How can I politely tell her no without causing friction or hurting someone's feelings?

NOt sure if there is a way to do it without hurting feelings, but it is your party and your decision as to what goes on there.

I don't blame you at all for not wanting that , and it was very rude of her to even ask!

I would just tell her that although you understand her wanting to celebrate the birthday, you would prefer to just have the Halloween party the way you originally planned it. You've already set aside times to do the things you had planned and the food you had planned to serve. Plus, you think the child should have her/his own party just for her/him.

just tell her you all ready have a dessert planned, but thanks anyway.

OH boy! That's a tough one, and quite a dilemma for sure. She is well-meaning of course, but the offer isn't appropriate for the occasion. Maybe tell her it would be much more special for the little one, if she brought the cake another time. Maybe she could bring a Halloween decorated cake instead, and save the birthday cake for a birthday celebration.

free food...cant go wrong with that
