Why don't you wait until they get to the after dinner activities, so to speak and then ask to join in.
If you know them well enough, go for it! But if you dont it might be a little awkward for them. And you wouldn't want them to think your a scrounger (bum). Unless you really dont care. :) But maybe it might be a nice way to get to know them if you dont know them very well. And yes, it would be very cheeky, even if you do bring a can of beer to share.
