Medieval birthday cake ideas? Or other ideas?!

Question: Hi Everybody,
My bf's brother is having an 18th bday coming up (Nov. 9th) and we were planning a surprise party for him. It has to be rly special b.c. his mom had a very serious stroke and won't be able to celebrate with him. Something to make him happy and get his mind off of things. Anyways, my idea was maybe something medieval but I can't seem to find good pictures or anything I like in general. Can anyone help me find a site or maybe send me a pic. of something they did? You can also give me other ideas if you like.

Thank you so much
~Sarah

This coming from a 19 year old, 18 seems a little old for themed birthdays. But you could make a dragon cake. Bake a round cake and cut it in half, and ice it so it looks like the dragons body. Use the rest to cut a shape for the tail, hind legs, and ice in a head.

Maybe you can find a cake shop that will create amazing-ly shaped cakes. How about a knight's helmet shaped cake?

Hi - I did a castle party for my boys when they were little. I made a flat sheet cake and then made towers and turrets with lengths of paper/toilet paper rolls. I made cones out of paper to give them a cone-shaped top and varied the lengths. I frosted those in advance to let them harden and then just put them on top of the cake (obviously you don't eat those). I used different color frostings and edible pens to draw the castle features on the cake and used blue tissue paper to create a moat around the cake. I even found a plastic crocodile to put in the moat! The whole cake was made on a rigid piece of board so it could be carried easily. Good luck!

Don't listen to the girl about him being too old. My fiance through me a pirate birthday last year (I'm 24). It all depends what kind of 18 year old he is. If he is really into what others think of him, then maybe he won't like it. But, if he doesn't care and just likes to be goofy and have a good time, then he may like it. My fiance made my cake look like a treasure chest with chocolate coins and candy jewels coming out of it.

A sword cake would probably be reall easy to make. Just cut the basic shape and use gray or silver icing. You may also be able to find cake pans shaped like dragons or castles. A shield would be pretty easy too.

How about a little step back in time for an all time favorite game in a cake version

Just make a round cake and buy a kings crown and put it on top. He's the king of the party. I live in Las Vegas and we have a Medival Dinner and show at the exacibur, anyway we had no utensils and a big chicken, veggies and potatoes wedges. it was so fun.

Last year I attended a Roman themed surprise party for a friend. The person hosting it had lots of Roman foods, and played Roman games. Everyone dressed up in Roman clothing. One idea would be to have games with the prizes being crowns of laurels or olive branches. You could have "chariot racing" with small carts or wagons, with teams of people pulling the carts. It's not really medieval, but it was a lot of fun. (Oh, the birthday party was for someone turning 32, so 18 is definitely not too old for a themed party.)
